The Role

This is a part-time, fractional engagement, anticipated to be around 10 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate peak periods such as renewals, fundraising, or insurance renewal seasons. The role requires reactivity to emerging issues, meaning hours may not be fixed weekly. We offer a flexible working arrangement, including remote, office-based, or hybrid options, with occasional attendance expected at our central London office.

As the legal lead, your primary focus will be negotiating and finalizing customer SaaS agreements, advising business heads on commercial contracts, managing data protection responsibilities, and supporting the executive team with corporate governance and compliance. This role demands a pragmatic leader comfortable wearing multiple hats, serving as the sole legal point of accountability and engaging in both high-level strategy and essential administrative tasks.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Act as the legal representative for the business, owning legal risk and determining when to engage external specialist counsel.
• Lead the negotiation and execution of customer SaaS agreements within sales cycle timeframes, advising the commercial team on contract strategy.
• Review, draft, and negotiate various commercial contracts across departments, including NDAs, partnership agreements, marketing agreements, and supplier agreements.
• Advise on privacy and data protection matters, including policies and product functionalities, within a complex international context.
• Own the GDPR compliance program, including DPIAs, LIAs, transfer risk assessments, ROPA oversight, and records of law and regulation.
• Support the Executive team with corporate governance, compliance, and matters related to the cap table or option schemes.
• Serve as Product Counsel for new data processing initiatives, AI features, and similar developments.
• Manage any disputes with customers or suppliers and provide legal input on data incidents.
• Support fundraising efforts as they arise.

What We Need From You:

• A qualified lawyer currently admitted to practice in the UK, with substantial post-qualification experience (approximately 6+ years PQE, given the seniority, autonomy, and sole-counsel nature of the role).
• Strong experience in drafting and negotiating technology or SaaS contracts.
• A solid foundation in data protection and privacy, preferably within a complex or international setting.
• The judgment and confidence to operate as a sole in-house lawyer, owning risk, setting direction, and recognizing the limits of your expertise.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts for non-legal colleagues.
• A pragmatic, commercial mindset focused on providing solutions.
• A willingness to act as a generalist across data security, disputes, employment, compliance, IP, and corporate governance.
• Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available at this stage).
