About the Role

Join a small, dedicated team of Surfacing Designers at Meta, focused on building complex forms cleanly and beautifully while managing constant changes. This role offers the chance to develop production-ready geometry that captures the desires of Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Manufacturing Engineers, ultimately contributing to hardware that will be used in millions of homes. You will support the development of category-defining products and help define the visual and physical language of Meta's brand through hardware design.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of category-defining products, contributing to Meta's hardware innovation.
• Help define and refine the visual and physical language of Meta's brand through hardware design.
• Create and update 3D CAD surfaces and solid bodies for product development and cross-discipline use.
• Create Class-A production-ready 3D CAD surfaces and bodies across multiple projects and product categories.
• Utilize aesthetic and mechanical sensibilities to devise elegant and effective solutions to complex geometric, ergonomic, and mechanical challenges.
• Work collaboratively with multiple cross-functional teams on complex technical programs in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a 3D Modeler or CAD Surfacing Specialist, developing complex parts for industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, wearable tech, or sports equipment.
• Mid-level knowledge of high-end parametric CAD surfacing software (e.g., PTC Creo, Siemens NX), including "master/skeleton" modeling for integrated assemblies.
• Experience designing parts with consideration for plastic injection molding, CNC machining, and metal forming/casting/extrusion/stamping best practices.
• Experience managing complex part interactions and assemblies.
• Good understanding of product architecture and internal component layout.
• Experience utilizing rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining) to validate part designs.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews).
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.

• In-depth understanding of manufacturing requirements combined with a developed sense of design/aesthetics/flow (e.g., in art, photography, automobiles, boats, airplanes).
• Passion for building and creating, whether through tinkering, renovations, or other projects.
• Ability to visualize, imagine, and express shapes in CAD, words, or clay.
• Capacity to act as the "paintbrush" or "chisel," intuiting and expressing design intent.
• Strong time management, energy management, and interpersonal skills within dynamic work schedules.
