Position Overview

The Associate Actuary serves as a department subject matter expert for actuarial model use cases. This role is vital for managing risk, ensuring profitability, and maintaining compliance. The position involves delivering actionable insights for informed business decisions, as well as designing and managing project initiatives and business processes.

Location Flexibility

  • This role can be hybrid (based in Lincoln, NE or Cincinnati, OH) or fully remote, depending on proximity to an office location.

What You Will Do

  • Execute and analyze recurring actuarial model use cases, including Asset Liability Management, ORSA compliance, Cash Flow Testing, Risk Based Capital, Liquidity Testing, and Financial Forecasting.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in life insurance and/or annuity modeling.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver timely model results and analysis supporting strategic management decisions.
  • Lead and support project management and troubleshooting for large-scale development initiatives, enhancing and streamlining the model projections process.
  • Perform and document dynamic and static validations (analysis of change and results, policy audits, initial values).
  • Identify and support process improvements.
  • Support the Prophet model development life cycle, adhering to Model Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Compile and analyze data using statistical formulas and actuarial methods, including peer review.
  • Set up, test, validate, and maintain actuarial models for specified use cases.
  • Assist in implementing procedures for new regulatory, control, or governance requirements.
  • Respond to information requests from various stakeholders (actuaries, accountants, auditors, management, external parties), providing actuarial analysis.
  • Provide guidance, training, and peer review for other actuarial associates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on business initiatives.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 4-7+ years of actuarial modeling experience, preferably with indexed life and/or annuity with living benefit experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products, concepts, actuarial theory, techniques, and insurance industry regulations.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and produce high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accuracy in detailed calculations and a high level of understanding.
  • Clear and thorough documentation of assumptions, decisions, processes, and work performed.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prophet software knowledge is strongly desired; SQL experience is beneficial.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) designation is desired. Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries is desired.
