The Opportunity: Research Manager – Intelligent Canvas
Lead a world-class applied research team focused on defining the "brain" behind Miro's "Intelligent Canvas." This role goes beyond standard Generative AI or Recommendation engines, delving into unique spatial, unstructured, and deeply human collaboration data. You will pioneer research, drive "Research-to-Product" velocity, and ensure responsible AI practices are integrated into our user-centric solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Build and lead a world-class applied research team, hiring and mentoring top talent in deep learning theory and production engineering.
- Define the research roadmap for the "Intelligent Canvas," modeling complex user behaviors and AI-powered generation across various formats.
- Pioneer research on unique spatial, multimodal, and graph-based datasets to understand team collaboration and problem-solving.
- Drive "Research-to-Product" velocity by rapidly testing and fine-tuning foundation models (e.g., GPT-4, Llama, Stable Diffusion) for domain-specific tasks.
- Cultivate a culture of scientific rigor and relentless focus on shipping user-delighting features.
- Partner with Engineering & Product Leadership to translate AI capabilities into intuitive solutions.
- Architect organizational processes for model governance, evaluation, reproducibility, and ethical AI.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven technical leadership: 2+ years managing high-performing Applied Science or ML Engineering teams.
- Multimodal & GenAI Depth: Deep understanding of Transformers, Diffusion models, and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs); expertise in fine-tuning and RAG at scale.
- "Product-First" Researcher: Prioritization of user value and latency constraints over pure accuracy metrics.
- Curiosity for the "Unsolved": Excitement for modeling complex concepts like "collaboration" and quantifying outcomes.
- Strategic Communication: Ability to articulate the value of AI to executive stakeholders and align research with company strategy.
Education + Experience:
- Option A: PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field + 2+ years of people management.
- Option B: Master’s degree or equivalent deep technical experience + 5+ years of industry experience in ML, including 2+ years of people management.
Bonus (Nice-to-Have):
- A portfolio of research contributions (publications, technical blogs).
- Familiarity with the modern MLOps stack and building research infrastructure.
What's in it for you:
- Global benefits package including equity, wellbeing benefits, WFH equipment allowance, and L&D stipend.
- Join a diverse team where you can do your best work.
- Opportunities for growth and development in a dynamic environment.
