About the Role
Join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team at CannonDesign, delivering innovative lighting solutions to clients across various markets. This role is integral to both the pursuit and delivery of projects, offering broad exposure and significant responsibility.
What You'll Do
- Develop construction documents and specifications for lighting and control systems.
- Design lighting and control systems for healthcare, education, and commercial clients.
- Analyze lighting and engineering documents, and research design issues.
- Participate in value engineering sessions with Architectural/Engineering teams.
- Apply knowledge of energy codes, electrical codes, and IES recommendations.
- Perform illuminance and lighting power density calculations, and complete necessary documentation (Comcheck, rebates, LEED/WELL, etc.).
- Understand integrated design principles and coordinate lighting documentation with associated trades.
- Represent the lighting discipline in project and client meetings, resolving coordination items.
- Recommend process improvements for quality and efficiency.
- Review shop drawings and submittals.
- Respond to RFIs and review change orders.
- Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Understand basic profitability metrics.
- Participate in industry events.
- Willingness to perform overtime and travel is required.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience in a lighting design role.
- LC/CLD credential, current registered member of IALD, IESNA, or other professional lighting memberships preferred.
- LEED AP, WELL, or other sustainable certification preferred.
- Knowledge of building regulations and codes for healthcare, education, S&T, and commercial spaces.
- Strong knowledge of product design and specifications.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, AGI/Elumtools.
- Proficiency in graphic design and image editing software (Adobe Creative Suite).
- Knowledge of Sustainable Analysis and Daylighting programs (Lightstanza, Ecotect, Daysim, Comfen, DIVA for Rhino, IES VE).
- Familiarity with Energy Analysis Software (Comcheck) and code-required documentation (e.g., California Title-24 Energy Compliance).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Teams, Trello, Procore + Miro preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $84,800 - $106,000 annually (Boston, MA office).
