β¨ AI Insights & Summary
Ericsson is seeking a highly specialized AI SoC Hardware Architect in Austin, TX, to bridge the critical gap between AI model development, software systems, and custom silicon design. This is a pivotal role for an experienced architect who can translate complex AI workload demands into concrete silicon requirements, ensuring performance and feasibility before tape-out. If you thrive at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and hardware innovation, possess deep architectural fluency, and excel at cross-functional technical leadership, this is a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI hardware at a global technology leader.
About the Role
As a Principal AI Hardware Architect, you will own the critical technical contract between AI workload demands, software system capabilities, and custom silicon delivery. This is a high-leverage, non-support role focused on architecting solutions that prevent performance loss due to communication gaps between AI researchers, silicon teams, and infrastructure engineers. Your work will directly influence hardware design and investment decisions.
What You'll Own
- Workload-to-Architecture Translation: Analyze specific workload test cases for real-world applications (LLMs, multimodal systems, signal processing, inference engines) and translate them into precise hardware requirements. You will act as the bridge connecting model engineering, AI infrastructure, and silicon architecture teams, ensuring hardware investments are architecturally sound and software-accessible.
- Performance Modeling Ownership: Develop and utilize analytical, simulation, and cycle-approximate performance models to guide architecture, compute investments, memory hierarchy decisions, and feature prioritization before silicon design begins.
- Real Workload Validation: Profile real workloads on current and future platforms to identify bottlenecks in memory, compute, scheduling, and architecture, feeding these findings directly into the next hardware and software cycles.
- Strategic Technical Translation: Align diverse teams (hardware architects, AI researchers, infrastructure engineers) by translating technical concepts and grounding product decisions in real workloads, measurable constraints, and practical execution paths.
What You Bring
- AI/ML Systems Depth: Deep understanding of modern AI architectures, including inference systems, quantization strategies, deployment constraints, and how workload behavior impacts silicon utilization. You understand the cost of AI operations.
- Silicon Architecture Fluency: Experience with processor, accelerator, or custom silicon architectures. Familiarity with compute pipelines, memory hierarchies, on-chip interconnects, and performance tradeoff analysis is essential.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of industry experience across AI, systems, or silicon.
- Proven experience at the intersection of hardware and intelligent compute systems.
- Hardware/software co-design leadership across full product cycles.
- Demonstrated performance modeling expertise (analytical, simulation, or cycle-approximate).
- Track record of influencing architectural and product decisions across multiple technical organizations.
- Exceptional written communication and technical specification ability.
- Strong Python and C++ skills.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with custom silicon, accelerators, or advanced hardware platforms.
- Prior involvement in ISA definition, memory hierarchy design, or accelerator roadmap decisions.
Why This Seat Matters
This role is for the architect who can unify workload understanding, silicon clarity, and software stack knowledge to create truly differentiated hardware. Your contribution is key to building silicon purpose-built for the workloads that define an industry.
