About the Role
Trellis is seeking a highly motivated and execution-focused Full-Stack Team Lead to drive the development of critical, user-facing products on their legal research platform. This role is a hybrid hands-on and leadership position, with approximately 70% dedicated to coding and 30% to team leadership, issue triage, and people management. You will collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to transform complex legal datasets into intuitive products and analytics, guiding engineers and fostering a focused, productive environment.
What You'll Do
- Lead and directly contribute to full-stack product development, encompassing back-end services, APIs, and front-end experiences.
- Build scalable features utilizing large datasets to present complex legal information in clear, user-friendly product interfaces.
- Partner with Product and Design to translate requirements into robust and well-executed applications.
- Triage technical issues, bugs, and product requests, helping the team prioritize effectively.
- Manage and support engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching, and project guidance.
- Collaborate with back-end, data science, and R&D engineers on data initiatives, system enhancements, and product launches.
- Provide technical leadership, assist in defining implementation plans, review approaches, and uphold strong engineering standards.
Who You Are
- 8+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience with a proven track record in shipping production software.
- Experience leading engineers through complex projects (tech lead, engineering manager, or hands-on team lead).
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with a Python web framework; Django experience is a plus.
- Solid understanding of API architecture, front-end JavaScript frameworks, and server-rendered/front-end template development.
- Ability to translate product and design requirements into clean, scalable, and maintainable applications.
- Excellent judgment in balancing technical quality, product needs, team capacity, and delivery timelines.
- Comfortable managing both technical execution and people leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with AWS, Linux, Celery, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar infrastructure and data-processing tools.
- Experience with frontend libraries such as Vue JS, Vike for SSR, JQuery, and Typescript.
- Experience working with large-scale datasets, search products, analytics tools, or data-heavy applications.
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth SaaS environment.
- Familiarity with legal tech, public records, court data, or complex data domains.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
