Freelance Bot Developer (WhatsApp / Telegram / Discord)

About the Role

Mindrift is seeking experienced Bot Developers to join the Tendem project, focusing on building sophisticated conversational bots and messaging platform integrations within a hybrid AI + human operational model. As an AI Pilot, you will collaborate with Tendem Agents, leveraging your bot engineering expertise, conversational design skills, and quality control to ensure bots are reliable, useful, and user-ready. This is a part-time, remote freelance role.

About the Role (Tendem Project)

This freelance role involves designing, building, and refining messaging bots for platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. Use cases include customer service, appointment booking, order taking, content delivery, moderation, and automated notifications within the Tendem project.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop bots for WhatsApp (Business API / Cloud API), Telegram (Bot API), Discord, and similar messaging platforms.
• Design and implement conversational flows, dialogue states, and fallback mechanisms.
• Integrate bots with Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI or Anthropic for natural language responses.
• Connect bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs.
• Handle webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats.
• Evaluate and refactor AI-generated bot code for correctness, reliability, and error handling.
• Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery systems to ensure bot stability in production.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant backend, integration, automation, or bot development experience (required).
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field is a plus.

Professional Experience

• Strong foundation in bot development, messaging platform integrations, and building reliable conversational workflows.
• Experience designing and maintaining production-ready bots, working confidently with APIs, webhooks, and backend services.
• Ability to refine AI-assisted output into stable, user-friendly experiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Technical Skills (Essential)

• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience building bots for major messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or similar) (required).
• Strong command of Python or Node.js for backend bot logic.
• Solid experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request handling.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases for conversation state and user data.
• Experience with hosting and deployment (Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS).

Technical Skills (Strong Plus)

• Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt design for conversational use.
• Understanding of platform-specific limits, message templates, and approval flows (e.g., WhatsApp template messages).

Additional Requirements

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to bot reliability.
• Self-directed work ethic with the ability to design and ship complete bots independently.
• Portfolio or examples of bots you've built (required).
• English proficiency: Upper-intermediate (B2) or above (required).

Project Details

Project Time Expectations

• Tasks are estimated to require 10–20 hours per week during active phases.

Compensation

• Up to $35 per hour equivalent, depending on experience and contribution level.
