Overview

We are looking for a Senior Geospatial Fire Analyst & Systems Analyst with over 5 years of experience to bridge fire science, spatial analysis, and software development. In this role, you will conduct wildfire risk modeling, support insurance and other industry clients, and guide software enhancements for Precisely’s Wildfire Risk product suite. Your work will translate complex fire behavior and suppression concepts into a nationwide map of wildfire risk across the United States.

What You Will Do

  • Spatial Analysis: Model wildfire hazards and risks using various fire behavior software (IFTDSS, LANDFIRE, BEHAVE, etc.) and GIS tools.
  • Fuelscape Calibration: Edit and refine national fuelscapes, vegetation data, and canopy fuel layers.
  • Decision Support: Support the application of fire behavior analysis in a nationwide wildfire risk assessment.
  • Engineering Support: Translate operational fire workflows into technical software user stories.
  • Developer Collaboration: Work with developers to test and deploy the Wildfire Risk suite of datasets.

What We Are Looking For

  • Educational Requirements: A degree is preferred, though equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Years of Experience: 5+ years in geospatial wildfire analysis, fire behavior modeling, or related technical fields.
  • Specific Technical or Software Skills:
  • Fire Science: Deep knowledge of surface/canopy fuel models and fire behavior simulation software.
  • Developer Tools: Experience building software solutions, leveraging modern development tools and AI-assisted coding to accelerate delivery (Java, Scala, or similar languages are a plus). Strong ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable system designs, using AI to accelerate implementation. Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other SQL-based database systems. Experience working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and the ability to design, query, and optimize data models with AI-assisted support. Hands-on experience with Git or other version control systems. Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern build/deployment practices. Experience writing unit tests and using common testing frameworks.
  • Geospatial Tools: Experience with spatial display and analysis using GIS software (QGIS, MapInfo Professional, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • NWCG Qualifications: FBAN or LTAN qualification preferred but not required. Experience as a wildland firefighter in fire behavior positions is desired. A current red card is not required.
  • Travel: Approximately 5% travel is required.

AI Skills/Knowledge

  • Familiarity with using AI for knowledge and market research.
  • Familiarity with using AI to create technical requirements or similar documents.

Location

This position is 100% remote anywhere in the US.
