The Role

The Performance Marketing Engineering team at Pinterest is responsible for the end-to-end systems that drive user growth through marketing spend. This includes attribution, bidding, budget optimization, and campaign management across major advertising platforms. This role focuses on designing scalable systems that adapt to evolving privacy regulations.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the technical roadmap for the performance marketing platform, prioritizing investments in attribution, bidding, budget optimization, and campaign management.
  • Engage in hands-on engineering for ad platform integrations, event pipelines, and production systems for marketing spend deployment and measurement.
  • Design and evolve the measurement stack, including attribution models, conversion signal collection, incrementality methodology, and privacy-resilient approaches.
  • Develop systems for automating and optimizing bidding strategies and large-scale campaign experimentation.
  • Drive cross-team technical initiatives with ads platform, data warehouse, and mobile teams, authoring design documents and fostering alignment.
  • Ensure the reliability and operational health of critical financial systems.
  • Collaborate with marketing, data science, and product partners to identify and engineer growth opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, establishing best practices and elevating system design standards.
  • Utilize AI to accelerate personal workflows in exploration, drafting, analysis, and synthesis, while maintaining critical judgment, validation, and accountability.

What We're Looking For:

  • 7+ years of experience building and shipping backend systems, with practical experience supporting performance marketing.
  • Strong understanding of paid media platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, Snap) and API integration at scale.
  • Deep knowledge of attribution methodologies (last click, multi-touch, SKAN, probabilistic vs. deterministic), incrementality testing, and conversion optimization, including experience with mobile measurement partners.
  • Experience with near real-time systems for bidding, budget optimization, and conversion event delivery.
  • Proficiency in Python or Java/Scala, plus SQL; experience with modern big data ecosystems is a plus.
  • Strong systems design skills in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and service-oriented backends.
  • Familiarity with ML infrastructure concepts and building systems for ML workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI for workflow acceleration while upholding high standards for verification, data integrity, and ownership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Location & Work Model:

  • In-Office Requirement: Roles require in-office collaboration 1-2 times every 6 months, allowing for remote work from anywhere in the country.

Compensation:

  • Base Salary Range (US-based): $177,185 - $364,795 USD.
  • This position is also eligible for equity.
  • Final salary is determined by factors including location, travel, and relevant experience.
