About the Role

This role is designed to support the largest and most complex Construction risks, delivering Primary Casualty (Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Auto) for annual practice and wrap-up programs. You will work closely with the leadership team, provide technical expertise, and act as a primary point of contact for underwriting teams on critical decisions and referrals. Your involvement will extend to developing and implementing strategies to maintain and improve portfolio performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical underwriting assistance and formal referral approval for auto, general liability, and workers' compensation in the Large Construction segment.
  • Ensure continuity and alignment between Primary Casualty and Excess placements.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on exposure, coverage analysis, and key pricing/financial elements.
  • Monitor and recommend improvements for underwriting decision frameworks, including referrals and technical reviews.
  • Regularly evaluate portfolio performance, identifying drivers of performance, risks, and opportunities in collaboration with Underwriting Leaders.
  • Drive underwriting technical excellence across the Large Construction segment.
  • Collaborate with leaders to identify product/service enhancements and underwriter capability development opportunities.
  • Model effective collaboration within and across teams, including UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, and NA Product Teams.

Qualifications

  • Expert-level knowledge of coverage forms, exclusions, and exposures.
  • Proficiency in pricing, structure, rating, rating plans, loss forecasting, credit risk, market knowledge is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience operating within various industry segments, with a strong emphasis on Construction programs.
  • Understanding of insurance operations, claims, finance, actuarial concepts, regulatory environments, loss control/risk engineering, reinsurance, account management, product development, and industry trends.
  • Skilled collaborator adept at assessing issues, engaging subject matter experts, and driving outcomes.
  • Superior communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, listening), approachability, tact, coaching/development abilities, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Relationship and service-driven with a clear solutions orientation and commitment to achieving segment objectives.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to positively influence others internally and externally.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 10+ years of relevant experience including underwriting, claims, reinsurance, coaching/developing others, working with brokers/agents, and staying current with market trends.
