We are investing in a new AI capability within our R&D group in Alkmaar and are seeking an AI Engineer to help build it from the ground up. Our goal is to develop AI models that compliance officers can trust, providing them with the necessary proof for their work. What You'll Do

• Co-found and shape our new AI engineering team in NiCE Netherlands, influencing architecture, tooling, and culture from day one.
• Train and fine-tune LLMs, SLMs, and other ML/DL models for compliance use cases, including communication, market, and trade surveillance.
• Architect training pipelines that integrate seamlessly with our data capture platforms.
• Optimize inference pipelines for cost-efficient, scaled AI capability delivery.
• Evaluate and implement emerging AI techniques (e.g., RAG, agents, distillation, fine-tuning strategies) into production.
• Own end-to-end explainability and auditability, selecting interpretation techniques and producing model cards and evidence artifacts that satisfy compliance officers and regulators.

What We're Looking For

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Solid experience with modern ML/DL frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face.
• Proven experience training and/or fine-tuning LLMs or SLMs.
• Strong Natural Language Processing (NLP) foundations applied to real-world problems (e.g., sequence classification, named entity recognition, semantic search, RAG over unstructured financial communications). Familiarity with financial and regulatory text is a plus.
• Familiarity with ML infrastructure, including training pipelines and GPU clusters (MLOps).
• A pragmatic mindset focused on deploying models into production.
• Bonus: Experience in financial services, RegTech, or any highly regulated domain.
