The Opportunity

We are hiring a Senior Director of Accounting to lead the operational accounting function as Deepgram scales towards an IPO. Reporting to and working alongside the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), you will lead the team responsible for the monthly close, general ledger, all sub-ledgers (AP, AR, payroll), and accounting systems. This includes managing the migration from Xero to a new, selected platform. This is a senior leadership role in a function being built in real-time, requiring experience in standing up operational accounting at first-audit, pre-IPO companies. You will partner closely with an operationally engaged CAO who owns audit firm selection, treasury, and remains hands-on across key areas.

What You'll Do

• Lead Operational Accounting: Manage monthly/quarterly close, GL integrity, sub-ledger architecture, and associated systems. Design the function for first-audit and subsequent operations.
• Lead ERP Migration: Partner with the CAO on platform selection (NetSuite, Rillet, Everest, etc.) and lead the end-to-end implementation.
• Lead the Team: Manage the operational accounting team (close/GL, AP, AR, payroll, accounting systems), developing managers and hiring staff. Set the standard for the function.
• Operationalize Technical Accounting: In partnership with the Director, Technical Accounting, instrument GL and sub-ledgers for ASC 718, 606, 842, 340, and 805.
• Deliver Year-1 Audit: Oversee PBC delivery, codify accounting policies in the system, and defend the opening balance sheet.
• Build SOX Control Environment: Design the operational control perimeter from scratch ahead of IPO.
• Lead AI-Native Transformation: Drive the AI-native transformation of operational accounting, ensuring systems become more efficient as the company grows.
• Scale with the Function: As scope expands, take on broader accounting leadership, including succession planning and cross-functional finance partnership.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 12+ years of accounting experience, with at least 6 in a senior operating role at a high-growth company (pre-IPO or recently public preferred).
• Experience taking a company through its first audit.
• Direct experience leading an ERP migration end-to-end at meaningful scale.
• Proven track record of designing an operational accounting function.
• Operational fluency in ASC 718, 606, and 842.
• Experience standing up SOX controls from scratch.
• Demonstrable AI-native practice implemented within an accounting function.
• Experience managing managers and developing senior leaders.
• CPA preferred.
