About Form Energy:

Are you ready to build America’s energy future? Form Energy is a revolutionary American manufacturing and energy technology company dedicated to creating cost-effective, multi-day energy storage solutions. Our mission is to strengthen the electric grid, ensure its reliability, and reimagine what's possible for clean energy. Recognized by TIME, MIT Technology Review, and Fast Company, we are rapidly scaling our operations, with our first high-volume manufacturing facility in West Virginia now producing our iron-air batteries.

Join us at an extraordinary moment in our company's history as we expand our manufacturing capabilities. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are transforming the energy landscape.

About the Role:

Form Energy is seeking a strategic and experienced Tax Director to lead all aspects of the company’s tax function. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will be a key partner to executive leadership, driving federal and state income tax strategy, complex tax planning, SALT compliance, and ASC 740 financial reporting. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the tax function within a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and a vital mission, with a specific focus on our US manufacturing operations and utility-scale project development model.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize effective tax rate and maximize cash flow, including structuring guidance for joint ventures, project finance, and capital expenditures.
  • Identify, evaluate, and secure tax incentives, grants, and credits for manufacturing and project development (e.g., R&D credits, Section 179D, Section 45X/48E energy credits).
  • Oversee R&D tax credit calculations and provide guidance on IRA tax credits and legislative changes.
  • Lead the annual ASC 740 income tax reporting process, including provisions, deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions.
  • Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of all Federal, State, and non-US income tax returns, managing estimated tax payments and cash tax forecasting.
  • Direct specialized manufacturing tax computations (UNICAP, inventory accounting, depreciation).
  • Manage SALT compliance for all non-income taxes (sales & use, property, gross receipts, payroll) and assess nexus footprint.
  • Serve as the primary contact for tax audits and develop audit defense strategies.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls over tax processes (SOX compliance) and drive automation initiatives.

What You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or in-house corporate tax.
  • Minimum of 4+ years at a public accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and US GAAP, with recent experience leading a global income tax provision process.
  • In-depth understanding of US federal and state tax rules; experience with manufacturing tax incentives (45X, R&D credits, UNICAP/263A) is strongly preferred.
  • Recent tax experience at a multinational US-headquartered corporation preferred; knowledge of transfer pricing is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, pioneering environment with strong project management and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

Where You'll Work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, offering an easy commute from Pittsburgh, PA. This facility is our hub for high-volume battery production.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salaries and stock options.
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees (80% for dependents), effective day one.
  • At least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents).
  • Generous vacation policies.
  • Relocation assistance available.
