The Role
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive leadership position responsible for the company's financial strategy, planning, and operations. This role oversees accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls, ensuring robust financial governance. The CFO will act as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on financial leader, partnering closely with executive leadership, Engineering, Compliance, and external advisors to support growth, audits, and client due diligence.
Responsibilities
- Direct the preparation and review of all financial statements and management reports.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including variance analysis.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Establish and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures aligned with audit and SOC expectations.
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, prioritization, and resource allocation.
- Analyze operational and financial data to identify opportunities for efficiency, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Support pricing models, contract reviews, and revenue recognition practices for SaaS and fintech environments.
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and capital planning.
- Manage relationships with external partners, investors, or lenders.
- Support client due diligence requests.
- Monitor economic and industry trends relevant to fintech and credit unions.
- Lead changes to the company's legal entity structure.
- Direct mergers and acquisitions activity.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for Accounting and Finance functions.
- Manage internal accounting staff and external vendors.
- Oversee budget preparation, financial controls, and audit coordination.
- Collaborate with department leaders on financial performance and resource allocation.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong leadership, management, and financial governance skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Experience with financial systems and accounting software for growth-stage companies.
- Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and judgment.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, regulated fintech environment.
- Proficient in Google Workspace or similar software.
Education and Experience
- Masterβs degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, including leadership responsibility.
- Experience in fintech, SaaS, or financial services, particularly within banking or credit union environments, strongly preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
