Product Engineer (AI Agents) - Remote (Florianópolis, Brazil)
About LawnStarter:
LawnStarter is the leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, driving over $100M in annual bookings. We are expanding into a comprehensive home services platform, operating across multiple brands on a unified technology stack.
About Engineering at LawnStarter:
Our engineering team is structured around initiative-based teams, comprising a Product Engineer, Product Manager, and Designer. Supported by an Engineering Manager, you will lead AI agents in development, ownership, and delivery, directly impacting key metrics.
The Role:
As the engineering anchor for an initiative, you will collaborate closely with a Product Manager and Designer. Your responsibilities span the full product lifecycle: problem definition, technical strategy, leading AI agents for implementation, production deployment, and accountability for outcomes. You will own the initiative's success, not just code volume. If an AI agent can safely implement a solution, your role is to ensure it's done correctly and drives the desired metric. You will write critical code yourself when necessary.
What Makes This Role Unique:
- Lead AI Agents, Not Humans: Utilize Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and our internal agent stack as your development team. You are responsible for their output quality, safety, and velocity.
- Own Outcomes, Not Ticket Queues: Take ownership from problem framing through production launch and metric review (2-4 weeks post-launch).
- Horizontal Partnership: Collaborate directly with PM and design; there's no tech lead or architect above you.
- Staff-Level Bar: Make critical decisions independently. This role requires proactive ownership and leadership.
What You'll Own:
- Technical Approach: Define architecture, data models, integration strategies, rollout plans, observability, and rollback strategies. Document decisions and iterate based on data.
- Agent-Led Implementation Quality: Ensure safe, correct, production-ready code through effective prompts, guardrails, evaluations, tests, and review loops. You are accountable for agent-authored code.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Engage daily with your PM on scope and tradeoffs, and with your designer on UX and prototyping. Weekly check-ins with your EM for initiative health and growth.
- Initiative Outcome: Drive the specific metric the initiative aims to improve. Present results and insights post-launch.
- High Shipping Bar: Maintain production correctness, security, performance, observability, and a positive customer/pro experience. AI agents enhance, not lower, the standard.
Problems to Solve:
- Leading AI Agents at Staff-Level Quality: Develop workflows that enable AI agents to produce code equivalent to a senior engineer's, focusing on prompts, evaluations, tests, and observability.
- Owning Outcomes Without Hierarchy: Make fast, well-documented decisions and remain accountable for results without relying on traditional tech leads or architects.
- Shipping Outcomes, Not Features: Focus on moving key metrics, making tough scope decisions, and following up on post-launch performance.
What Success Looks Like (Year 1):
- Successfully ship 3-4 initiatives, with at least two demonstrably moving their target metrics.
- Develop agent workflows adopted by other engineers.
- Reduce cycle time from problem framing to production rollout.
- Maintain zero critical regressions from agent-authored code.
- Create reusable artifacts (runbooks, evals, workflows) that benefit the wider engineering team.
Who You Are:
- AI-Native: Proficient in using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.) daily for production work. Have strong opinions on AI development workflows.
- Operating at Lead Level: Demonstrate practical experience in making key technical decisions, shipping complex features, and taking accountability for outcomes.
- Outcome-Driven: Focused on metric improvement and user experience rather than output volume.
- Strong Horizontal Partner: Excel at collaborating with PMs and designers, bringing balanced engineering and product judgment.
- Decisive and Documented: Capable of making and documenting decisions quickly.
- Impact Multiplier: Create reusable artifacts that elevate the team's capabilities.
- Customer-Centric: Prioritize business and customer outcomes over pure engineering elegance.
This Role Is NOT:
- A traditional tech lead role with direct reports.
- A people management role (though growth into management is possible).
- A platform- or architecture-only position; focus is on shipping product features.
- A role where AI handles all the work; human judgment and accountability are paramount.
- A research role; focus is on shipping to a live marketplace.
Tech You'll Touch:
- AI Agents: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, internal agent stack, MCP servers, evals tooling.
- Backend: PHP/Laravel.
- Frontend: TypeScript/React/React Native (web and mobile).
- Data: Redshift, dbt, Segment, Airflow.
- Infra: AWS, Datadog, Sentry, GitHub Actions.
- Documentation: Brain, Confluence, Jira.
You need strong skills in at least one of our stacks and experience with AI coding agents.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary: USD $80,000–$100,000 annual base.
- Work from anywhere.
- High ownership and autonomy.
- Fast-paced, growth-oriented team environment.
