💡 About the Role: Staff Platform Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled, curious, and self-driven Staff Platform Engineer to help construct the critical technical foundations that power OpenSea. In this pivotal role, you will design and evolve the core platform, services, and infrastructure, enabling our engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate products quickly, reliably, and at scale. You will partner closely with product engineers to enhance developer experience, optimize system performance, and drive operational excellence, all while evolving the AI-enabled workflows, engineering systems, and technical foundations that make our entire team more effective builders.

Our overarching goal is to create self-protecting systems that enable rapid development for everyone.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Design, build, and continuously evolve the platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling that are essential to powering OpenSea's diverse products.
• Take ownership of complex technical systems from initial definition through implementation, meticulously balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and optimal developer experience.
• Implement best-in-class observability, monitoring, and alerting across all systems at OpenSea to ensure robust operational insights.
• Maintain and improve AI skills and tools, making our systems more accessible, introspectable, and easier to contribute to.
• Accelerate and expand Continuous Integration (CI) coverage to enhance correctness and AI verifiability within our codebase.
• Partner closely with product teams to accelerate the build and deployment of critical products, especially where autonomous agents may not yet be fully integrated.
• Build and ship high-quality, reliable software, leveraging AI, modern development tools, and sound engineering judgment.

🛠️ Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, specifically building large-scale backend or platform systems.
• Strong fluency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java.
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems, backend services, and modern cloud infrastructure.
• A strong understanding of platform engineering principles, developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, observability best practices, and operational excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to own complex, ambiguous technical problems and deliver thoughtful, scalable solutions.
• Excitement for making independent technical decisions, balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Direct experience leveraging AI tools and workflows to significantly improve engineering quality, efficiency, and overall team effectiveness.
• A genuine passion for Web3, digital ownership, AI, or other emerging technologies.

💰 Compensation

The base salary for this full-time position, spanning multiple internal levels depending on qualifications, ranges from $190,000 to $345,000 USD for candidates based in the United States and $161,500 to $293,250 USD for candidates based in the European Union, plus comprehensive benefits and equity. Compensation for candidates based outside of the US and EU will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions.
