The Role: Senior Software Engineer, Privacy Team

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Privacy Team and advance the Firefox Web Platform. Your work will be crucial in implementing privacy-improving features and architectural enhancements to protect users from unhealthy tracking.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement privacy-improving, anti-tracking features and data sanitization into the Firefox web browser.
• Develop architectural improvements within Gecko, the browser engine for Firefox.
• Write performant, low-latency, and maintainable C++, JavaScript, and Rust code.
• Collaborate effectively within a geographically distributed team, primarily operating asynchronously (Europe and US-East).

Your Professional Profile

• Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
• Technical Skills: Minimum of 4 years of programming experience in C++ and Rust, with a strong background in memory safety, multi-threaded system architecture, or raw data stream manipulation.
• Project Delivery: Proven ability to onboard quickly, deliver, and improve complex software projects.
• Independence: Demonstrated success in independently scoping and implementing complex features within tight release windows.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate progress and decisions.

Bonus Points

• Contributions to the Mozilla mission or codebase.
• Experience in the browser space (Gecko, Chromium, WebKit) or web engine runtime abstractions.
• Experience or strong interest in designing/leveraging ML pipelines for developer workflows.
• Deep understanding of web architecture, privacy/security models, and client-side data structures.
• Knowledge of basic statistical modeling.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
