The Role: Constitutional Law Team

Join our esteemed Constitutional Law Team and immerse yourself in challenging legal work that shapes government and state affairs. You will provide expert advice on intricate matters of Commonwealth and state constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and government law.

Key Legal Work Areas Include:

  • Constitutional Law Advice: Providing counsel on complex questions of Commonwealth and state constitutional law, including s.78B Judiciary Act notices, law inconsistency, and limits on State power (Chapter III of the Constitution, implied freedom of communication).
  • Government Law Matters: Advising government on complex statutory interpretation outside specific team expertise, miscellaneous government law issues of fundamental importance, and matters related to the Attorney-General's role as First Law Officer.
  • Human Rights Act 2019: Providing advice and potential representation on the interpretation and application of the Human Rights Act 2019, including legislative compatibility and advice to the Attorney-General.
  • Court Representation: Instructing the Solicitor-General and other counsel in complex matters before the High Court and other State and Federal Courts.
