The Opportunity — Remote (USA / Canada)

We are looking for a Senior Payroll Operations Specialist I to serve as an advanced practitioner and escalation point on our Payroll Operations team. In this role, you will own complex remittance operations, payroll corrections, and union compliance across a high-volume, multi-state environment, maintaining high standards for accuracy, SLA performance, and documentation. Beyond excelling in your own work, you will mentor teammates, identify process improvements, and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve root-cause issues. This role is for someone who takes pride in the craft of payroll and sets a high standard for those around them.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end payroll remittance operations, including corrections, reversals, overpayments, and contribution remittances, resolving cases within SLA with clear documentation.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex union and agency issues; identify root causes of reporting discrepancies and coordinate resolution with appropriate payroll teams.
  • Mentor team members on complex remittance and compliance matters, actively raising the skill level of those around you.
  • Document and maintain SOPs, ensuring they are current, complete, and easily usable.
  • Identify gaps in payroll operations processes and propose concrete recommendations for improvement.
  • Partner cross-functionally on payment and client funding questions, system testing, and payroll-related project work.
  • Leverage AI tools to optimize operational workflows and adopt emerging functionalities that improve team efficiency and accuracy.
  • Proactively surface issues with proposed solutions and act as a subject matter expert across teams to drive them to closure.

What You'll Have

  • 5+ years of end-to-end, multi-state payroll processing experience.
  • Advanced union expertise; ability to handle complex remittance and compliance issues independently.
  • Experience in third-party payroll or entertainment/film industry payroll strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Notion and Salesforce; intermediate Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document processes clearly and maintain SOPs that others can follow without hand-holding.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills — comfortable working across teams and with external agencies.
  • Proactive approach to AI tooling; comfortable adopting and applying new workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred.
