About the Role

Lyft is looking for a dedicated Paralegal II to join its Legal Team. In this crucial role, you will work closely with Lyft’s in-house counsel and paralegal team to investigate and respond to claims, conduct factual investigations, attend hearings, and support administrative tracking of case-related matters. This position is designed for a self-starter who can also take direction effectively and brings a positive attitude to a fun and dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Lyft’s in-house counsel Litigation & Employment team to support administrative, pre-litigation and litigation matters, as well as external legal requests.
  • Manages, tracks, calendars, and files responses to claims.
  • Independently conducts factual investigations to respond to administrative claims, demand letters, and other litigation and arbitration matters, and assist with drafting responses for these matters.
  • Prepare memoranda and summaries of factual research and make recommendations to supervising attorneys.
  • Assist with gathering documents and information to respond to discovery or information requests.
  • Complete court or agency filings and attend court appearances or agency hearings.
  • Thinks proactively about improving processes to help Lyft’s legal operations continue to scale effectively with incredible growth.
  • Liaises with other teams within the company and external parties to ensure efficient workflow and handling of requests.
  • Provides legal support to in-house attorneys, paralegals, and various internal business partners to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Helps define procedures and practices within Legal to promote efficient workflows and handling of legal requests.
  • Maintains overall governance of existing processes and strategies.
  • Liaises with internal and external counsel and contacts on a day-to-day basis.
  • Leads projects and tasks within a broader legal strategy in collaboration with other team members.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant legal experience. Law firm experience is preferred.
  • Experience handling discovery in complex litigation matters.
  • Ability to obtain notary license.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptionally organized and efficient.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency working in a Mac environment, and specifically with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Excel, and Word, and familiarity with various e-discovery tools.
  • Note that a JD or Paralegal certificate is not required for this position.

Compensation

  • The expected base pay range for this position in the New York City area is $88,000 - $110,000. Salary ranges are dependent on qualifications, experience, and geographic location, and do not include potential equity, bonus, or benefits.
