About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive AI Engineer who is passionate about building and shipping AI features at speed. This is a hands-on engineering position, distinct from research or prompt-only roles. You will be instrumental in transforming abstract product concepts into robust, production-ready AI functionalities. The role primarily focuses on developing new AI product features, with a secondary focus on AI systems and infrastructure as needed. You'll collaborate closely with product and engineering teams, taking significant ownership and driving technical decisions in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment. Proficiency with AI development tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Copilot is essential for daily use.
Responsibilities
As an AI Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing new AI-powered product features from conception through to production.
- Enhancing existing AI workflows to improve quality, reliability, latency, and overall user value.
- Designing and implementing LLM-based workflows, including structured output generation, validation logic, and fallback mechanisms.
- Building robust evaluation loops, comprehensive tests, and quality assurance checks for AI-generated outputs.
- Integrating AI capabilities seamlessly into existing product and backend systems.
- Working with both commercial and open-source LLMs, maintaining flexibility across different providers.
- Supporting self-hosted model workflows where beneficial for quality, speed, cost, or control.
- Debugging AI feature failures across various components, including inputs, outputs, data, backend logic, and user flows.
- Utilizing AI development tools as an integral part of your daily workflow.
- Prioritizing rapid deployment while maintaining high production quality standards.

Must-Have Qualifications:
- Strong software engineering proficiency, particularly in Python or a similar backend language.

- Proven ability to translate ambiguous product ideas into functional software rapidly.
- Solid understanding of designing, testing, validating, and refining AI outputs.
- Experience integrating AI workflows into production environments.
- Excellent debugging skills across application logic, data, model outputs, and user behavior.
- Experience with evaluation, testing, validation, or quality assurance for AI-generated outputs.
- Significant, daily hands-on experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, or similar.
- High intelligence, rapid learning capacity, a strong bias for action, and a deep sense of ownership.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity, making swift decisions, and thriving in a high-trust startup culture.
- Clear and effective written and spoken English communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience with frontend or full-stack product development.
- Background in self-hosted LLMs, model serving, inference optimization, or related systems.
- Experience with open-source LLMs and their deployment workflows.
- Proven track record in improving the latency, cost, quality, or reliability of AI systems.
- Familiarity with healthcare software, healthcare data, or regulated industry environments.
- Experience with structured data extraction, documentation automation, voice workflows, or general workflow automation.
- German language proficiency.
- Knowledge of nursing home or elderly care workflows.
