The Role

The Head of Legal & Compliance is responsible for overseeing and advising on all legal and compliance requirements across WA Technology, reporting directly to the Group's Chief Legal & Compliance Officer (CLCO). This role serves as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, delivering practical, risk-based advice to ensure the business meets its legal, regulatory, and governance obligations.

Responsibilities

Scope of Legal Services:

  • Advise on commercial, corporate, and operational legal matters, ensuring alignment with the Group’s risk appetite.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and related legal documentation.
  • Develop, maintain, and update legal templates, precedents, and internal legal documentation frameworks.
  • Provide legal support for corporate governance, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions.
  • Advise on key legal areas including online gaming, data protection, AML/CFT, intellectual property, IT, employment, corporate, commercial, and property law.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Group’s intellectual property protection and management strategy.
  • Manage and coordinate external legal counsel and specialist advisors.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise on their impact on the Group.
  • Prepare legal updates, reports, and recommendations for senior management and regulators.

Scope of Compliance Services:

  • Design, implement, and maintain compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based compliance advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update the Group’s risk register with responsible stakeholders.
  • Manage the Company’s regulatory license and software certification portfolios.
  • Apply for new licenses and certifications, and maintain the Group’s existing portfolio.
  • Support the development and ongoing review of the Company’s risk management framework.
  • Establish and oversee compliance control systems, monitoring activities, and remediation actions.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training to promote awareness and adherence across the business.
  • Liaise with regulators, external compliance advisors, and service providers.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, trends, enforcement mechanisms, and industry best practices, advising on necessary actions.
  • Prepare compliance reports for senior management and regulatory submissions.

Requirements

Areas of Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience as an in-house Legal Counsel within the iGaming industry (preferably B2B) or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of gaming, corporate, commercial, employment, IT, AML/CFT, and IP laws and regulations.
  • Solid understanding of AML/CFT frameworks, requirements, and due diligence processes for individuals and businesses.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments in both regulated and regulating markets.
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts with third parties.
  • Experience handling claims, mediation proceedings, opposition proceedings, and other regulatory and litigious actions.
  • Experience handling audits and exposure to license application processes, certifications, and audit processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Jira, Google Suite, MS Office, and Claude AI or similar models.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Business-oriented with a collaborative and structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to travel on demand.
