Data Engineer / BI Developer (m/f/d)
Develop Data Processes, Reports, and Platforms with Real-World Relevance
Do you enjoy working with data and want to understand how reliable decisions are made from it? Are you interested in not just building finished dashboards, but also understanding and developing the underlying data sources, data models, interfaces, and processes? Then this role might be a good fit for you.
CaraConsult is a specialized consulting firm for the caravaning industry. Our clients are primarily medium-sized companies involved with motorhomes, caravans, and recreational vehicles. We support them in improving processes, leveraging data more effectively, implementing digitalization projects, and making economically sound decisions.
In this role, you will work on our existing and future data landscape. Currently, we extensively use Power BI, databases, data models, interfaces, scripts, and automations. Simultaneously, we aim to evolve our data architecture to be more modern, stable, and scalable. This includes topics like cleaner data pipelines, transparent transformation logic, better documentation, metadata, automated updates, open-source-oriented platform approaches, and new BI or analytics tools. It's important to us that data solutions are not only technically correct but also technically stable, understandable, maintainable, and future-proof.
Tasks
- Develop and maintain data processes, data models, reports, and interfaces. This goes beyond individual analyses to address how data can be reliably provided, processed, documented, and made usable for internal or customer-related applications.
- Work intensively with Power BI, databases, SQL queries, APIs, scripts, and integrations. Concurrently, help to gradually develop our data landscape, enhance its stability, and translate business requirements into clean technical structures.
- A significant part of the role involves introducing new technical possibilities. We aim not only to operate existing reports but also to build a more professional data platform long-term. We are interested in modern approaches for data pipelines, transformations, data quality, metadata, automated testing, open-source BI, self-hosting, and more transparent data architectures.
- Analyze the origin of data, how it is processed, and its business significance. While you don't need to know topics like inventory, days on hand, liquidity, margins, KPIs, or operational processes in the caravaning trade from the start, you should be eager to understand them.
- Depending on your experience, contribute to data platform concepts, automations, deployment, monitoring, or the operation of data solutions. Data processes must not only function once but regularly, be traceable, and run as robustly as possible. If you have experience with tools or concepts like dbt, Airflow, DLT, Superset, data catalogs, data quality, or similar approaches, this would be particularly interesting as we seek to build additional perspectives and new development paths.
Qualification
For this role, it's important that you not only visualize data but also understand its origin, processing, modeling, and usage.
Particularly relevant for us are:
- Practical experience with data processing, BI, databases, reporting, or data-related software development.
- Very good or improvable practical knowledge in Power BI, as we use it intensively in internal and customer-related data solutions. If you are not yet a Power BI expert, you should at least have very good fundamentals and the willingness to quickly become deeply proficient in this area.
- Good SQL skills and understanding of relational databases, ideally with experience in PostgreSQL or comparable systems.
- Experience with data modeling, data preparation, interfaces, or APIs.
- Practical experience with Python, Power Query, scripting, or comparable tools for data processing.
- Interest in more modern data platform concepts, e.g., data pipelines, transformation frameworks, open-source BI, metadata, data quality, or automation.
- Ability to translate business requirements into robust data structures, reports, or analyses.
- Basic understanding of productive systems, regular data updates, error analysis, and documentation.
- Structured work approach and interest in building understandable and maintainable data solutions.
- Willingness to contribute your own experiences and new technical perspectives to actively shape and develop our data landscape, not just operate it.
Benefits
- Work with data that has a direct connection to real companies, processes, and decisions. Gain the opportunity to shape our data landscape, improve existing solutions, and build new structures.
- Our office is centrally located in Bad Homburg, directly opposite the Kurpark, in a beautiful old building with modern workspaces and good transport links. We value a positive working atmosphere and consciously use joint office days for exchange, teamwork, and personal coordination.
- You will receive flexible working hours, mobile working options, equipment for your home office, regular team events, joint workshops, free drinks in the office, and opportunities for professional development.
- After the onboarding period, a predominantly remote working arrangement is realistic. At the same time, you will not be left alone: we will provide structured onboarding and insights into our existing data models, reports, customer requirements, and technical systems. You can contribute your existing experience while growing in areas such as data platforms, automation, technical customer solutions, or productive operations.
