About the Team
The Email + Calendar Services (ECS) team delivers the microservices constellation that supports Outreach's email and calendar experience, processing millions of emails daily. They build reliable, performant services connecting to customer email providers to enable communication and generate valuable insights.
The Role
As a Software Engineering Manager for the ECS team, you will lead a team of up to 8 engineers, owning the roadmap and operational excellence for services operating at massive scale. You'll focus on reliability, deliverability, observability, and security/privacy compliance, partnering closely with Product Management, SRE, Security, and other engineering teams. This role requires a hands-on leader who stays close to the code, drives technical debt reduction, and mentors senior engineers.

Location
Hybrid role based in Prague. While remote-friendly, candidates are expected to live in reasonable proximity to the office for weekly team connection, in-person meetings, and company events. This is a full-time, permanent role not eligible for contractors or work from other countries.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: Read code, review designs, and pair with engineers during production incidents.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of up to 8 engineers, fostering a culture of growth, impact, and trust.
- Operational Excellence: Own SLOs and deliverability metrics, manage on-call rotations, and balance reliability work with feature delivery.
- Technical Detail: Participate in design reviews, contribute to architecture decisions, drive down tech debt, and understand service failure modes.
- Career Development: Own career growth plans for engineers and partner on developing senior individual contributors.
- Roadmap & Backlog Ownership: Co-own the backlog and roadmap with Product Management, making technical trade-offs.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner daily with Frontend Extensions, SRE, Security, and Data Platform teams.
Qualifications
- Management Experience: 1+ years of management experience or substantial tech-lead experience.
- Software Development Experience: 6+ years on backend, large-scale distributed systems.
- Technical Skills: Strong problem-solving, design, coding, and debugging skills; experience with observability and performance.
- Team Growth: Demonstrated success guiding, mentoring, and growing teams with senior engineers.
- Ownership: Ability to own and deliver on ambiguous problem statements.
- Clarity & Simplicity: Ability to bring clarity to problems and simplicity to solutions.

Highly Appreciated:
- Proficiency in Go.

- Prior exposure to email/calendar protocols (IMAP, SMTP, Microsoft Graph, Gmail/Google Calendar APIs, Exchange Web Services) or deliverability concepts.
