Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to support supplier manufacturing and inspection activities on a major infrastructure programme. The role will be embedded within the client’s quality team carrying out inspection activity in the Bradford, Leeds, and Sheffield areas. This will focus on ensuring manufactured components meet contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements before release to site.

The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, project quality teams, and inspection personnel to oversee manufacturing quality, perform inspections, and manage non-conformances.

This role requires someone who can quickly integrate into the project environment and operate independently within supplier manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform supplier inspections and witnessing activities in line with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Verify that manufactured equipment and components meet contract specifications, drawings, and applicable standards.
  • Review supplier quality documentation and manufacturing records prior to product release.
  • Identify, raise, and track non-conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Accept or reject manufactured items based on inspection outcomes.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure quality requirements are fully understood and implemented.
  • Support the development and delivery of the supplier surveillance and inspection programme.
  • Produce inspection reports and summary updates highlighting quality performance and key issues.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant national and international engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with project quality leads to ensure effective quality oversight across the supply chain.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience in quality inspection or quality engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience overseeing supplier manufacturing and inspection activities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience working to UK and international engineering standards and codes.
  • Ability to identify, document, and manage non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Experience supporting quality surveillance programmes and supplier oversight.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience on major infrastructure or complex engineering projects.
  • Experience within regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, energy, defence, oil & gas).
  • Knowledge of welding, coatings, or non-destructive testing inspection.

Qualifications:

  • Qualification in an Engineering discipline (ONC / HNC / HND / Degree or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in a quality inspection or supplier quality role within engineering or manufacturing.

Certifications (Desirable):

  • CSWIP 3.1 (welding inspection)
  • PCN (NDT)
  • NACE / FROSIO (coatings inspection)
