The Role
As a DevOps Engineer supporting operations on-site at Joint Base Lewis–McChord in Tacoma, WA, you will be a key technical contributor. You will work directly with customers to understand unique constraints—such as restricted networks, hardware limitations, or urgent operational requirements—and tailor automation and deployment strategies accordingly. Your responsibilities will span the end-to-end lifecycle of our AI platform across diverse architectures, including remotely accessible cloud environments and on-premises hardware. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys debugging complex Kubernetes clusters in challenging connectivity environments and can write automation to ensure seamless, reliable performance across hybrid stacks.
This position offers a hybrid/on-site work environment at our customer sites at Joint Base Lewis–McChord in Tacoma, WA. Travel up to 25% of the time is expected.
Your Day-to-Day Will Include:
- Customer-centric engineering: Partner directly with users and stakeholders to translate mission requirements into technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration of Striveworks’ AI capabilities.
- Tactical deployment and automation: Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for deploying custom Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem).
- Integration and troubleshooting: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for troubleshooting complex integrations, analyzing logs, and debugging containerized microservices, network, and application configurations.
- Product evolution: Provide field insights to core product teams, identifying friction points in the installation process and automating solutions.
- Mission execution: Lead software deployments on unclassified, CUI, and classified networks, ensuring AI reliability, adaptability, and scalability.

- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in software, DevOps, site reliability, or systems engineering.
- Customer-centric technical leadership with executive presence to lead requirement gathering, manage incident response, and represent organizational interests.
- Expertise in Production Kubernetes, including deploying and diagnosing microservices (Helm, kubectl).
- Experience with comprehensive observability solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Ability to design and execute testing strategies, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Deep proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong scripting and coding skills in Bash and/or Python.
- Linux mastery (RHEL, Ubuntu, Alpine).
- Active Secret (or above) U.S. security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship required.
The Wish List
- Experience with DOD networking, tools, infrastructure, and security requirements.
- Proficiency with U.S. federal information system security policies (STIGs, NIST SP 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, CMMC, ICD 503).
- Experience with software deployments to DOD unclassified, CUI, and classified networks.
- Experience with DevSecOps/DevOps and CI/CD for GPU-enabled servers.
- Experience deploying or maintaining Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) projects.
- Experience with network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) technologies.
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native applications in denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) environments.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $160,000 to $190,000/year. Striveworks’ total compensation package includes a competitive base salary, equity grants, and cash bonuses.
