About the Team

The Automation Engineering Team is responsible for deploying robotics-driven automation solutions across various customer applications. We collaborate cross-functionally to translate customer needs into deployed systems, ensuring reliable performance in real manufacturing environments. Our team works closely with customers, internal technical teams, and external integrators to execute projects efficiently.

About the Role

As a Robotics Automation Technician, you will be hands-on in supporting the build, configuration, validation, and installation of Formic’s robotic automation systems. This role is perfect for someone early in their automation career who is mechanically adept, eager to learn, and motivated to grow. You will work closely with experienced engineers and technicians, gaining exposure to real-world robotic deployments across multiple industries.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, configure, and test automated systems in our facility, including material handling, palletizing, case erecting, and case packing.
• Support internal system integration, including mechanical and electrical setup, quality checks, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, FAT, and pack-out.
• Assist with on-site installation and commissioning activities at customer locations.
• Support senior technicians and engineers during system integration and deployments.
• Validate system performance and troubleshoot issues during testing and deployment.
• Travel to customer sites as needed for installations and support.
• Adhere to Formic’s standardized processes, tools, SOPs, and safety requirements.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• 0–2 years of experience in robotics, automation, manufacturing, mechanical assembly, or related hands-on technical work.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools.
• Willingness to learn and grow into advanced technical responsibilities.
• Ability to follow documented procedures and seek assistance when needed.
• Comfort working in physically active, hands-on environments.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50–60%.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to the greater Chicago area and work onsite five days per week in Woodridge, IL.
• Comfort working in industrial manufacturing environments.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to industrial automation equipment or 6-axis robots.
• Basic electrical experience (sensors, wiring, troubleshooting).
• Experience with end-of-line packaging systems (palletizers, case packers, etc.).
• Experience in a system integrator, OEM, or manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with basic measurement tools.
• Exposure to industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, etc.).
