The Regional Market Engineering Manager Opportunity

Townsquare Media is seeking a highly skilled and independent Regional Market Engineering Manager to oversee the multi-station broadcast radio facilities in the Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Montrose, Casper, Cheyenne, and Laramie markets. This pivotal role serves as the sole technical authority, responsible for the strategic planning, analysis, and independent decision-making governing broadcast continuity, FCC compliance, and infrastructure across all assigned stations. You will personally perform technical work as needed, ensuring operational excellence and revenue protection.

Essential Functions

Independent Judgment and Decision-Making

  • Assess, prioritize, and resolve technical failures impacting broadcast continuity, making real-time decisions during emergencies.
  • Evaluate equipment performance, authorize repairs, and take systems offline when broadcast continuity is at risk.
  • Serve as Chief Operator under FCC rules, ensuring station compliance with technical regulations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop solutions to prevent recurrence of equipment failures.
  • Optimize broadcast transmission infrastructure and technical systems.
  • Develop technical operating standards and recommend capital expenditure plans for infrastructure upgrades.
  • Evaluate and select vendors and contractors for engineering projects.

Technical Operations

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain all broadcast radio station equipment, including transmitters, antennas, automation systems, studio equipment, and generators.
  • Install and maintain AoIP and automation systems (Zetta and Wheatstone experience preferred).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AM directional antenna systems and EAS systems.
  • Manage personal computers, servers, printers, software, and LAN systems.

Travel and Emergency Response

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to multiple transmitter sites.
  • Respond to emergency equipment failures on short notice, including after hours and weekends, with on-call availability.

Cognitive and Communication Requirements

  • Interpret technical documents, schematics, and manuals.
  • Accurately follow detailed instructions and retain information.
  • Identify and differentiate equipment components and site locations.
  • Diagnose issues and make real-time decisions to restore broadcast operations.
  • Write technical reports and correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, management, and corporate technical teams.

Safety and Physical Requirements

  • Adhere to safety protocols for high-voltage equipment and tower sites.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, and talk/hear.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift and move up to 10 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Maintain close visual acuity for data analysis, computer use, and inspection.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible broadcast engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent technical judgment in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, networking concepts, and computer hardware.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.

Preferred

  • SBE certification or computer-related certification.
  • Experience with Zetta and Wheatstone systems.
