Manager, Engineering - Catalog at iHerb

Job Summary

The Manager, Engineering - Catalog role is central to iHerb's AI transformation. This position will lead a lean, high-seniority engineering team while remaining actively involved as a player-coach. The Manager, Engineering - Catalog will be responsible for delivery commitments, engineer development, and modeling the AI-native development practices that will set the standard across the engineering organization.

This role is among the first to validate and shape iHerb's AI-driven SDLC golden path. You will lead the Catalog engineering team, which is responsible for iHerb's product catalog platform. You will drive feature delivery across a full-stack codebase, coordinate with product and design teams, and establish the technical standard for a team of mid-to-senior full-stack engineers.

Job Expectations

  • Own sprint planning, delivery commitments, and retrospectives for the Catalog team.
  • Maintain an active Individual Contributor (IC) workload, including writing, reviewing, and shipping full-stack production code weekly using AI-assisted tooling.
  • Partner with the Principal Engineer, Catalog on architectural direction and the platform roadmap.
  • Hire and onboard engineers, enforcing a high AI-native standard during interviews.
  • Drive collaboration with product managers and design teams proactively, without requiring top-down direction.
  • Contribute improvements to the shared AI-driven SDLC golden path and skills library.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • AI-driven SDLC: Hands-on experience shipping production code with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor). Must be able to articulate how AI has changed your workflow and the guardrails implemented.
  • Full-stack Orientation: Comfortable contributing across all layers of the stack, not limited to a single specialization.
  • Delivery Ownership: Proven track record of owning commitments end-to-end, from scoping through shipping and retrospectives.
  • Engineering Excellence: Strong convictions regarding code quality, testing strategies, CI/CD, and delivering production-grade software at speed.
  • People Leadership: Experience hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers, with the ability to provide direct, constructive feedback.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills; adept at driving alignment across product, design, and peer engineering teams.
  • Backend Languages: Production experience with C#/.NET (strongly preferred), Go, Python, or Java.
  • Frontend: Experience with React or equivalent modern frontend framework.
  • Databases: Relational database experience with MS SQL Server or Postgres.
  • Full Stack Capability: Ability to contribute across the entire stack, from backend to frontend.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task.

Preferred:

  • Background in e-commerce, retail technology, or high-traffic consumer platforms.
  • Experience working in globally distributed teams.
  • Contributions to internal developer tooling, platform frameworks, or organization-wide SDLC process improvements.

Equipment Knowledge

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) is preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Generally requires a minimum of 7-10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a team lead or engineering manager role.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.

Judgment/Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems quickly with sound judgment, poise, and diplomacy. Capable of determining when to escalate issues in a timely manner.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated Pay Scale: $187,000—$235,000 USD
  • Benefits: Eligibility for medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, 401(k) plan, Time Off and Paid Sick Leave, paid holidays. Specific details governed by applicable plan documents. Restrict Stock Units and annual bonuses may be awarded based on eligibility and performance criteria.
