About the Role

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will contribute to AlayaCare’s Residential platform, supporting better care for residents in aged care facilities across Australia. You will join a distributed engineering team working closely with product, clinical, and finance stakeholders to design and deliver reliable backend services and APIs that underpin critical customer workflows. You will primarily work with C#, .NET 8, and MSSQL in an environment transitioning from a monolith to modern microservices, utilizing technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, AWS, and Azure DevOps. You will be part of an AI-first development culture, expected to leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate delivery while maintaining high quality. This is a fully remote 12-month temporary full-time contract position.

Your Impact

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs in C#/.NET that power key clinical and financial workflows.
• Optimize MSSQL database access and queries for improved performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Enhance the security and resilience of shared services, including role-based access control and service-to-service authentication.
• Lead and participate in code reviews to promote reuse, extensibility, and high engineering standards.
• Implement and maintain automated unit and integration tests for robust code quality and coverage.
• Monitor production services, investigate issues, and ship fixes to improve stability and client experience.
• Contribute to the product-wide technical roadmap and guide the transition from monolith to microservices.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools, patterns, and technologies to enhance team effectiveness.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development.
• Deep hands-on experience building production systems in C# and .NET, including modern versions.
• Proven experience designing and implementing production-grade microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing database access/queries on MSSQL or similar relational databases.
• Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services in a production environment.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions in ambiguous contexts and communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in English, enabling effective work across distributed teams.
• Familiarity with Redis, message-based background processing, and observability tooling (e.g., DataDog) is an asset.
• Ability to work Pacific Time Zone hours.
