Job Description

Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit as an Electrical Systems Engineer, providing technical expertise across the lifecycle of Electrical Systems for SMR nuclear power plants. You will be responsible for the complete design of electrical systems, including system architecture, sub-system design, equipment specification, and selection, to realize the final verified design of the power station. This involves close collaboration with engineering teams across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach.

Your Mission:

  • Review and agree high-level electrical requirements, including testability.
  • Analyze and translate high-level requirements into validated designs for electrical systems/components.
  • Capture applicable design constraints and quality attributes.
  • Document requirements/constraints in line with project processes for interface and requirements management (e.g., IBM DOORS).
  • Design and implement electrical solutions to meet design inputs.
  • Work with the Verification team to define verification activities.
  • Analyze electrical designs for functional behavior, potentially using modeling and simulation to demonstrate requirement satisfaction.
  • Develop and review electrical tests to provide evidence of requirement satisfaction.
  • Participate in capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for the team.
  • Identify and mitigate risks.
  • Develop, implement, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide expert advice and support to project teams and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Represent electrical engineering in meetings, working groups, and IPTs.
  • Collaborate with power station engineering teams to drive standardization and a commoditized approach to system and component development.
  • Ensure quality throughout the SMR project lifecycle via technical reviews and providing electrical engineering input to project technical gates.
  • Engage with external organizations, including the nuclear safety regulator, potential customers, and suppliers, regarding electrical system design.

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related subject.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry.
  • Ability to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK.
  • BPSS and SC clearance required.
