The Position:

You will join a cross-functional development team focused on building tools, APIs, and integrations for one of our core products. We operate with a modern tech stack including Elixir and Phoenix for the backend, React and Next.js for the frontend, Postgres for our database, and AWS for hosting. Our CI/CD pipeline facilitates multiple deployments per day. This role offers significant freedom in organizing your work and life, with no mandatory daily stand-ups or recurring meetings.

What You Bring:

Must-have (professional experience):

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows and iterating to improve them.
• Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and ensure quality.
• Experience with Postgres (or similar databases).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, or similar).
• Demonstrated strong automation and AI capabilities, and AI fluency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
• Actively participate in product work, providing feedback and suggesting solutions.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Provide feedback on code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and solve technical and business issues.
• Participate in non-team activities, such as support rotations and hiring processes.
• Mentor and guide other engineers.
• Investigate, propose, and implement improvements to our platform.
• Implement interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API design in mind.
• Redesign how engineering work ships with autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
• Propose and operationalize agentic workflows end-to-end to deliver outcomes faster.
• Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives in the codebase.
• Use verification loops (tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.
