About alcemy:
alcemy is on a mission to decarbonize cement and concrete, aiming to prevent 100 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually by 2030. Our machine-learning software operates 24/7 in cement and concrete plants to reduce emissions without compromising quality or increasing costs. We are already operational in a significant portion of Germany's cement plants and over 30 ready-mix concrete plants.

The Role:
As our Data Engineer, you will own the data infrastructure that powers our machine learning recommendations. This role involves approximately 80% data engineering and 20% backend work, with significant customer interaction. You will analyze real-world data, explain findings to non-technical stakeholders, and streamline data ingestion into alcemy.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and own pipelines for ingesting and cleaning raw plant data for ML utilization.
  • Contribute to moving from strict data requirements to flexible, AI-powered ingestion for reduced customer onboarding friction.
  • Track data anomalies and communicate findings clearly to customers.
  • Build and maintain APIs and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring smooth production operations.
  • Collaborate closely with customers, sales, and customer success teams, bridging technical and non-technical communication.

Must-haves:

  • Proven production Python experience.
  • Ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar codebases and deliver impactful work.
  • Comfort working directly with customers, sales, and customer success teams; patient and clear communication with non-technical enterprise teams.
  • Openness to using AI tools to augment your work.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Flask or Django.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar SQL databases.
  • Exposure to machine learning.

  • €1,500/year and 3 days/quarter for personal development.

  • Office located in the heart of Berlin Mitte.

Our Tech Stack:

  • Backend & Data: Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, pydantic, pytest, mypy), pandas, polars, numpy, sklearn; uv.
  • Infra: PostgreSQL, AWS on Kubernetes (Terraform), ArgoWorkflows, GitLab.
  • Frontend: React & Next.js (TypeScript, TailwindCSS), Blueprint.js / Radix UI, TanStack Query or axios; Streamlit.

Hiring Process (Fully Remote):

  1. Intro call with Recruiter.
  2. Meet Hiring Manager.
  3. Take-home task.
  4. Technical interview (90 min) with live coding.
  5. Team-fit interview (45 min).
