As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing our technical product domain, guiding team decisions, product capabilities, and software architecture. Location:
This role is based at ARC’TERYX headquarters in North Vancouver, BC. We offer a hybrid or remote work option. Remote candidates must commit to Pacific Time Zone hours. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
Meet Your Future Team:
The technology team builds the backbone for arcteryx.com websites. We collaborate with cross-functional agile squads to launch new features, enhance performance, and develop self-serve tools for business stakeholders, creating an exceptional online experience for our guests.
Core Responsibilities & Activities:
- Direct the development direction and technical health of a medium-sized product area.
- Become a subject matter expert in your specific product business domain.
- Deeply understand systems to debug them effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrate significant expertise in at least one area outside of programming (e.g., DevOps, performance optimization, monitoring, visual design).
- Mentor and elevate the technical skills of other team members.
- Produce technical documentation for existing systems and propose refactoring strategies.
- Participate extensively in code reviews and mentor others through code reviews and pairing.
- Execute performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, and automation.
- Contribute to common code bases and define team standards.
- Present at team meetings for knowledge sharing.
- Own technical design for moderately complex projects, understanding trade-offs in creating good software.
- Require minimal oversight beyond high-level direction, breaking down complex user stories into sub-tasks and completing them effectively.
- Show initiative by identifying and suggesting future work for yourself or the team.
- Seek evidence to support ideas and build cases for them.
- Work effectively with non-technical team members, identifying problems with requirements and helping the team course-correct.
- Align daily work with ARC’TERYX leadership practices and culture.
Future Projects:
- Coaching and mentoring other software engineers.
- Building and delivering maintainable, high-quality software for a best-in-class e-commerce experience.
- Implementing superior developer experiences through team events and knowledge sharing.
- Initiating refactoring of underperforming software components.
- Contributing to the software architecture of new products.
- Improving application tests and quality.
- Defining clear system contracts and maintaining integrations.
- Setting up non-regression detection systems with SLAs.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience with full-stack development in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Programming language polyglot, excelling in 1 or 2 languages.
- Extensive knowledge of programming best practices.
- Proficient in TypeScript and NodeJS.
- Expert in React Native, and comfortable with Swift/Kotlin, and mobile-specific challenges.
- Experience with transactional and NoSQL databases.
- Proficient in writing and maintaining automated user and unit tests.
- Advocacy for a schema-first approach (defining API schema before coding).
- Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs, OAuth 2.0, and headless solutions.
- Experience with cloud computing providers, container solutions, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of Micro Services concepts and architecture.
- Experience with CDN, Web Servers, and Load Balancer configuration and management.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Proactive in identifying root causes and developing solutions.
- Highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity.
- Passion for both work and the outdoors.
Compensation:
- Salary Range: CAD$94,000 - CAD$124,000
