Developer Advocate (AI & Observability)

We are a team of engineers focused on translating real-world experience to help user communities solve problems. With a focus on AI-accelerated workflows and next-generation developer ecosystems, you will have the opportunity to engage with fast-moving teams, helping them build strong engineering foundations and expanding your impact across the developer community. What You’ll Do

• Empower Developers in the AI Era: Help developers hone their craft by exploring how AI coding assistants and rapid-prototyping tools impact software workflows. Guide teams on balancing rapid prototyping with established engineering practices for performance, code health, and system reliability.
• Build in Public: Create authentic, peer-to-peer technical content and share your engineering insights directly within modern developer communities, both online and in person.
• Drive Feedback Loops: Foster a constructive, bidirectional feedback loop between developer communities and internal teams. Translate real-world developer experiences into actionable product insights to shape our roadmap and advocate for user needs internally.
• Develop Open-Source Tools: Design and ship high-quality open-source boilerplate templates, quickstarts, and tools that simplify observability integration across AI-native workflows, next-gen platforms (e.g., Vercel, Supabase), and cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Who You Are

• Experienced Builder: Approximately 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with experience shipping applications from scratch or working in an early-stage startup environment where you wore multiple hats.
• AI-Fluent Developer: Natively leverage AI coding assistants and rapid-prototyping tools as a core part of your daily development workflow.
• Multi-Stack Familiarity: Comfortable writing and debugging code across multiple programming languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python) and experienced with deployment paradigms across next-gen platforms and traditional cloud ecosystems.
• Authentic Communicator: Approximately 3+ years of experience in technical storytelling and community engagement, supported by a publicly available portfolio (e.g., GitHub repositories, technical blogs, video walkthroughs, public speaking presentations).
• Forward Thinker: Passionate about self-driven exploration of emerging technologies, developer education, mentorship, and helping other engineers improve their skills.

• Active community presence or leadership (e.g., meetups, Discord, Reddit, open-source ecosystems focused on next-gen tech).

Compensation

The estimated yearly salary range for this role at Datadog is $194,000—$237,000 USD. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as candidate skills, qualifications, and experience.
