About the Role
CannonDesign is seeking a strategic and visionary leader to serve as the Director, Office in our Toronto location. This pivotal role focuses on providing strategic leadership to develop, lead, and grow a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive team. You will be instrumental in shaping the office's business plan, fostering a strong brand presence, and driving outstanding top-line results within a collaborative, firm-wide network. As a leading ambassador for our Living-Centered Design ethos, you will champion our brand and purpose, demonstrating how our values come to life in our culture and client partnerships.
What You'll Do
- Office Growth: Drive new business opportunities and client partnerships to achieve a minimum 10% year-over-year office growth, collaborating with Regional and Market Leaders.
- Strategic Leadership: Lead strategy development and execution, engaging staff at all levels to advance entrepreneurial opportunities, innovative market solutions, and impactful design.
- Market Brand Enhancement: Elevate CannonDesign’s reputation in the community by acting as a leading voice, promoting the office and firm's brand, and championing Living-Centered Design.
- Design Culture: Foster a design-focused culture, advocating for diverse, equitable, and inclusive responses to client opportunities and championing innovation in project approaches.
- Talent Acquisition and Development: Grow the team by acquiring Market and Client Leaders and supporting staff for project delivery.
Areas of Focus
- Business Planning: Lead and implement the annual business plan for the office, aligning with regional and firmwide strategies.
- Top Line Development: Partner with Market Leaders and other key stakeholders to grow the office's business, achieving a personal goal of $2.0M in top-line success annually.
- Client Leadership Development: Identify, assess, and mentor Client Leaders, championing best practices in client engagement.
- Practice and Team Building: Collaborate with the Regional Executive Director to build a strong leadership team and expand market impact.
- Staff Development: Champion mentorship, growth, and professional development for employees, working with HR and other leaders.
- Business Practices: Champion best practices in project management, risk management, and office profitability.
- Communication: Represent the office in regional and firm-wide forums, and develop internal communication processes to foster collaboration.
Time Commitments
- 35%: Brand advancement and new business development.
- 30%: Client engagement and direct project work.
- 25%: Office leadership, strategy, practice building, and staff development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred).
- 15+ years of experience with a proven track record of business development and top-line growth.
- Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
- Ability to champion Living-Centered Design, ethical culture, collaboration, and entrepreneurial behavior.
- Demonstrated business acumen and strategic execution capabilities.
- Licensure and additional certifications/training are preferred.
- Some travel is required.
