This allows the design team to focus its highest leverage on complex, open-ended platform challenges.
About the Role
Invoca is seeking a hands-on Director of Product Design to lead the craft, quality, and creative direction of the Invoca platform. This player/coach role requires an individual who thrives on tackling the most challenging product problems and developing a team of designers. You will personally own and ship designs for critical platform initiatives while managing, coaching, and growing a team of talented product designers, often within the same day. We are looking for a leader who ships impactful work.
You will set the standard for design excellence at Invoca, ensuring a cohesive and modern platform user experience. You will champion AI-first design practices to accelerate development alongside AI-assisted engineering. As a peer to product and engineering leadership, you will actively contribute ideas and opportunities that shape the future of the product.
Your primary mandate will be to elevate the team's capabilities and sharpen the quality bar across the product. This involves helping designers adapt to changing engineering velocities, fostering psychological safety for experimentation, and evolving design craft. You will also build design fluency across the broader R&D organization, ensuring strong design principles are embedded throughout.

What You'll Do
Design Leadership & Execution:
- Personally own the design of Invoca's most strategic, complex, and foundational platform experiences.
- Lead user research and discovery for ambiguous platform problems, translating customer insights into product opportunities.
- Drive the end-to-end design process: discovery, exploration, prototyping, validation, and ship-quality execution.
- Generate proactive ideas, opportunities, and prototypes to influence product strategy and roadmap direction.
- Establish and evolve the design language, interaction patterns, and AI-native paradigms for the Invoca platform.
- Operate at the intersection of design and front-end development, designing in code where efficient and partnering directly with engineers on implementation.
Team Management & Development:
- Manage, coach, and grow a team of product designers, providing direct feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Set and uphold the quality bar across the platform, ensuring consistent and high-quality design output.
- Own platform-level UX cohesion, ensuring all design work contributes to a unified product experience.
- Partner with Product Managers and Tech Leads to build design fluency across the product organization.
- Define and optimize the design team's operating model, including rituals, critique culture, design ops, tooling, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Extend best practices beyond the design team to empower PMs, Tech Leads, and Engineers to make strong design decisions.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management & Engineering leadership as a peer voice in shaping strategy and roadmap.
AI as an Operating Model:
- Implement an AI-first operating model for the design team, influencing idea exploration, prototyping, handoffs, and design-to-engineering integration.
- Champion the adoption of AI design and prototyping tools, leading by example.
What You'll Bring
- Player/Coach Track Record: 10+ years of product design experience, with 4+ years managing product designers in B2B SaaS or enterprise software. Demonstrated success in both personal design contributions and team development.
- Compelling Portfolio: Demonstrates exceptional craft in visual design, interaction design, and systems thinking, with clear examples of complex platform work showcasing strategic scope and pixel-level execution.
- AI-First Design Fluency: Deep, hands-on experience designing AI-powered products (agentic experiences, conversational interfaces, generative UI, human-in-the-loop workflows). Active practice with modern AI design and prototyping tools and a clear point of view on evolving design team operations.
- Research Instincts: Hands-on practice with generative and evaluative research (customer interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing). Ability to synthesize qualitative data using AI tools and a clear point of view on their application.
- Design-to-Engineering Integration: Comfort operating at the boundary of design and front-end development, including designing in code, collaborating within codebases, and establishing effective design handoff models.
- Strategy Shaper: Proven experience shaping product strategy and direction, demonstrating how design thinking has influenced product decisions.
- Enterprise Platform Depth: Experience designing complex enterprise platforms with multiple personas and deep configurability, understanding the nuances between consumer and enterprise design.
- Direct Communicator: Ability to articulate design rationale clearly to diverse audiences and provide direct, constructive feedback.

- Experience evolving or building a scalable design system.

Salary, Benefits, & Perks
- Target Base Salary: $225,000 - $255,000 USD
- Bonus Potential: Available
