Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Join Assystem, a world-renowned leader in nuclear engineering with over 60 years of experience. We are seeking talented individuals to join our embedded team on-site with a key client in Derby, UK. This role offers hybrid working (3-4 days on-site) and is available on both contract and staff terms.

About the Team

You will become an integral part of a dedicated team responsible for generating essential design and manufacturing documentation for mechanical equipment and structural supports. This is a collaborative environment where your contributions directly impact critical projects.

Your Missions

• Undertake design calculations in accordance with pressure vessel codes (e.g., ASME) and structural codes (Eurocode 3).
• Select cost-effective and regulation-compliant designs.
• Collaborate with the CAD team and suppliers to produce engineering drawings using NX 11 or AutoCAD.
• Create and update equipment specifications.
• Present technical information at review meetings.
• Ensure all work adheres to the Quality Management System.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience with and understanding of codes such as ASME VIII, EN13445, Eurocode 3, BS EN 1090, and EN13001.
• General knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is preferable (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, LS-Dyna).
• Ability to plan and manage your own workload effectively.
• Understanding of steelwork components, including materials, profiles, strength, and joint designs, ensuring compliance with relevant design codes.
• Capability to complete scheme calculation assessments through to final stress analysis reporting.
• Good working knowledge of manufacturing tolerances.
• Experience with the application of CE and/or UKCA marking to ensure proposed designs are fully compliant.
• A team player with clear and effective communication skills.
