About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to enhance Datadog's Referential Data Platform (REDAPL). REDAPL is central to tracking customer infrastructure resources and relationships, enabling insights into performance, cost, security, and more. Many Datadog products, including Cloud Security Posture Management, Resource Catalog, and Cloud Cost Management, rely on REDAPL, which handles over 4.5 million updates per second.
As a Senior Engineer, you will drive and lead projects within and beyond the platform, contributing to key technical decisions in data ingestion, processing, and query pipelines.
What You’ll Do
- Build a query engine optimized for efficient relationship traversals for demanding workloads.
- Contribute to the design and execution of high-priority, high-visibility projects to enhance platform value, resilience, and scalability.
- Lead and guide other engineers in making critical architectural platform decisions.
- Identify potential system risks and reliability trends, designing solutions to mitigate them.
- Provide input for prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning.
- Collaborate with internal product teams to understand their requirements and plan for REDAPL's role in their product growth.
Who You Are
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience with multiple types of data stores.
- Several years of experience contributing to platform or infrastructure-focused initiatives.
- Proven leadership in impactful technical initiatives where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience were primary concerns.
- Significant back-end engineering experience, including building and operating distributed systems at high scale.
Bonus Points
- Experience with Graph Databases (e.g., Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, PuppyGraph).
- Production-grade experience with Apache Iceberg.
- Solid understanding of query planning, or contributions to production-grade query engines/projects (e.g., Trino, Calcite, Substrait, DataFusion).
