About the Role
This role is central to Monzo's Control Discipline change agenda, focusing on delivering a future-ready, technology-first, and data-driven risk management model. As Monzo expands into new products and markets, you will be instrumental in embedding agility, automation, and intelligence into our risk and control processes across the business.
The Controls Team
Joining the Controls organisation, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Technology, Data, and Risk & Compliance. As a new team, we value a flexible, adaptable mindset and a willingness to navigate ambiguity as we establish our rhythm and integrate within the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Roadmap: Lead the Control Discipline data and technology strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with Monzo’s expansion plans and Group Risk strategy.
- Scalable Operating Model: Design and deliver a service model that supports a global organization in collaboration with Risk & Control leads.
- Risk & Control Data Transformation: Partner with Data and Engineering to translate risk management needs into technology and data requirements, supporting the Risk Engineering prioritization for transformation.
- Real-time Risk Management: Drive the shift from manual assessments to 'always-on' risk management by identifying data-driven triggers, designing automated monitoring systems, and creating alerting mechanisms for proactive threat management.
- Platform Evolution: Collaborate with 2nd Line and Technology to evolve our Risk & Control application strategy for simplification, automation, and enhanced user value.
- Innovation and AI: Champion AI in risk management by identifying enterprise partners, running Proofs of Concept (PoCs), building business cases for AI-driven solutions, and leading contract negotiations.
- PMO Ownership: Own the transformation program roadmap, including executive reporting, committee updates, and stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle.
- Initiative Management: Maintain a central view of all initiatives, set milestones, identify risks and dependencies, and track delivery.
- Process Improvement: Support the ongoing development of scalable processes, systems, and controls aligned with our strategy.
- Project Management: Manage project schedules, set milestones, identify potential issues, and communicate clearly to stakeholders.
- Tech & Data Mindset: Instill a technology and data-led culture within the Control Discipline, partnering with culture carriers to ensure sustainable value delivery.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Employ excellent stakeholder management skills, building strong partnerships across Risk, Data, Product, Engineering, Procurement, third parties, and Control leads to drive change.
We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have:
- Programme management experience in a financial services environment.
- Experience leading teams (preferably Risk and Control) through change programs.
- Experience in implementing Risk and Control systems and processes.
- An open mind, ability to operate in a fast-paced, sometimes unstructured environment, and a knack for thinking outside the box.
- A keen understanding of AI's potential and comfort in building and writing prompts to solve control problems.
- A 'tech and data' first mindset, constantly seeking process improvements.
- A hands-on approach, finding satisfaction in supporting colleagues and tasks of all sizes, and the ability to bring stakeholders along the journey.
- Excitement about Monzo's mission and vision.

- Salary: £85,000 - £115,000 per annum.
