About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Django Developer to significantly enhance our Partner Success team's support and delivery capabilities. This role is central to maintaining and delivering robust solutions for our SLA and retainer-based partners, combining hands-on development with a strong emphasis on reliability, responsiveness, and strategic technical partnership. You'll ensure optimal uptime, rapid resolution, and consistent delivery across a diverse portfolio of projects for our non-profit and charity clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Backend Development: Work extensively with Python, Django, and Wagtail CMS, picking up and delivering backend development tasks across various partner projects and retainers with established SLAs.
  • Project Management: Engage in sprint management to ensure timely achievement of sprint goals.
  • Issue Triage: Support the assessment of incoming requests and implement quick fixes to maintain partner satisfaction.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to enhancing team processes related to deployment, environment management, release visibility, and technical handovers.
  • Partner Interaction: Collaborate directly with partners to scope, plan, and sometimes respond to technical work, building strong relationships.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with project managers, designers, and other developers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Code Review: Review code from other developers, promoting best practices and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Adaptability: Quickly integrate and adapt to new technologies, APIs, and frameworks as project needs evolve.
  • Solution Design: Translate non-technical requests into logical data structures, smooth user experiences, well-tested code, and maintainable long-term codebases.

What We're Looking For

  • Technical Expertise: Strong professional experience with Python and Django.
  • Adaptability: Enjoys working across multiple projects and codebases, comfortable with context switching.
  • Problem-Solving: Confidently works within existing systems, identifies areas for improvement, and makes sound technical decisions.
  • Leadership: Comfortable being a senior technical presence within a team, capable of providing leadership without formal line management responsibilities.
  • Mentorship: Ability to mentor and help others learn through pairing, code reviews, clear explanations, and unblocking issues.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, capable of interacting clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Values Alignment: Seeks to work in an agency environment (specifically a not-for-profit), appreciates 'Pythonic' code, and is energized by projects for charities and non-profits.
  • Impact-Driven: Balances the pursuit of perfection with the practical deadlines of resource-constrained third-sector projects, demonstrating a big heart and a desire to make a positive impact.
  • Collaborative Learning: Understands the importance of sharing skills and continuous learning.

Bonus Points

  • Wagtail CMS: Knowledge and experience with Wagtail CMS.
  • DevOps Awareness: Confidence with deployment workflows, release processes, and environment management; comfortable working close to infrastructure.
  • Front-End Skills: Some front-end confidence to handle simpler changes when beneficial.
  • Partner Support: Experience supporting or maintaining long-running partner relationships through ongoing technical work.
  • Mobile Development: Experience with React Native or a willingness to learn enough to support adjacent app work.
