Lead Product Designer
About Assemble
Assemble is the AI platform for healthcare’s leadership, designed to automate administrative work, streamline workflows, and enhance team collaboration to ultimately improve patient care. We partner closely with nursing and operations leaders to modernize how healthcare teams coordinate work, make decisions, and support one another.
The Role
Assemble is seeking its first full-time Product Designer to own the end-to-end user experience of the Assemble web app and its future companion mobile app. You will be the design backbone of the team, responsible for setting the standard for product quality, building our design system from scratch, and collaborating closely with product and engineering to ensure rapid and effective product delivery in a dynamic, high-ambiguity environment.
This role is perfect for an individual eager to delve deep into productivity workflows, skilled at transforming complex challenges into simple, elegant interfaces, and driven by the desire to improve the daily work lives of healthcare leaders.
What You’ll Do
- Own the product experience across our full web surface and future mobile app, from initial discovery through to shipped product.
- Design end-to-end flows for complex productivity workflows, including task management, collaboration, automation, and analytics.
- Create and evolve Assemble’s design system to enable high-velocity, high-quality product shipping.
- Utilize modern AI tools like Cursor & Bolt for prototyping to explore interactions, flows, and create lightweight coded prototypes.
- Partner closely with product and engineering teams to define problems, shape specifications, and iterate rapidly based on real user data.
- Conduct lean discovery processes, including user interviews, lightweight usability tests, and rapid experiments to validate ideas.
- Champion design craft and UX quality while maintaining rapid shipping cycles in a startup environment.
- Lay the foundation for a future design team by establishing processes, rituals, and documentation that can be built upon.
What We’re Looking For
- Deeply mission-driven and excited by the prospect of improving healthcare operations for those who lead them.
- An experienced product designer (typically 5–8+ years) with a strong portfolio showcasing impactful work in productivity software.
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex, multi-step workflows into intuitive and delightful user experiences.
- Experience building or significantly contributing to a design system (e.g., Figma libraries, design tokens, component standards, usage guidelines).
- Proficiency in working across the entire design process: strategy, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping.
- Hands-on experience with modern AI tooling (e.g., Cursor, Bolt, or similar) to accelerate exploration, prototyping, or implementation.
- Comfort working at high speed in ambiguous environments; adept at navigating vague problem spaces, shifting priorities, and 0-to-1 product development. Understanding that speed fosters quality through tighter iteration cycles.
- Strong product sense, with a focus on impact, trade-offs, and user outcomes beyond just visual polish.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating design decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical team members.
Bonus Points
- Experience designing for the healthcare industry, frontline workforces, or operational tools.
- Familiarity with mobile design patterns (iOS/Android) and designing with Shadcn components.
- Previous experience as an early design hire or working in a seed/Series A startup environment.
How We Work
- Fast, iterative shipping: We prioritize small, frequent releases and learning from actual user behavior.
- Low-ego collaboration: We believe great ideas can emerge from anywhere, fostering an environment where we debate, then commit.
- Ownership: As the first designer, you will play a key role in defining how design functions at Assemble.
- Hybrid async/sync communication: We utilize thoughtful documentation alongside regular real-time design sessions.
