About the Role
This role is responsible for end-to-end data science at Rundoo. You will translate ambiguous business questions into clear scopes, deliver robust analysis on time, and build lightweight internal systems for reproducible insights. As a thought partner to leaders in GTM, product, and finance, you will shape questions, answer them, and proactively identify anomalies and opportunities as the business scales. This is a remote role with a preference for candidates in SF or NYC, reporting directly to the Head of Data Science.
What you’ll do as an Data Scientist at Rundoo ️
- Deliver high-trust analysis on clear timelines: Ensure stakeholders trust both the answers and the estimated delivery times, with explicit assumptions and limitations.
- Translate business problems into analysis + system requirements: Define crisp scopes, metrics, and data contracts from vague requests.
- Build and maintain internal decision systems: Ship lightweight tools and workflows for reproducible and maintainable insights.
- Partner with GTM teams: Facilitate the transition from "interesting analysis" to actionable strategies (e.g., prospecting lists, territory design, experimentation).
- Proactively surface issues: Detect anomalies, broken assumptions, or misallocated spend without direct requests.
- Support fundraising readiness: Contribute to a credible, evergreen data pool and reporting for leadership.
Requirements ☑️
- 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, applied ML, or MLE in a high-growth environment.
- Strong applied analytics/data science foundation (statistics, experimentation, causal thinking, forecasting, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to scope ambiguous problems and drive decisions with stakeholders.
- Comfort writing production-quality code (especially Python) and building maintainable internal systems.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain trade-offs, assumptions, and recommendations to non-technical audiences.
- High ownership and autonomy in a fast-paced environment, capable of operating with minimal process.
Bonus Points
- Experience partnering closely with Sales/GTM teams (pipeline, conversion, pricing, prospecting, territories).
- Experience building internal analytics tooling on cloud infrastructure (basic best practices, reliability, maintainability).
- Experience in early-stage startups or building "v1 systems" that scale.
- Strong "structured systems thinking" and willingness to defend or revise approaches.
Location
- Remote friendly.
- Approximately 1 week of travel per quarter to Chicago or Redwood City offices.
About the Team
You will collaborate closely with leaders across GTM, product, and finance, and work directly with executive stakeholders. This is a high-trust, cross-functional role requiring decision-ready and reproducible outputs. You will work directly with GTM leaders including Amrit (Data Science), Matt (Sales), and Vidhan (Client Experience).
