About the iOS Platform Team

The iOS Platform team is responsible for setting the technical direction for iOS development at Reddit. Primarily serving other engineers, the team focuses on improving developer efficiency through libraries, APIs, frameworks, performance monitoring, shared components, and build tools. They own core app components like networking and caching, and define architectural patterns and technologies used across the iOS codebase.

The Role: Principal Engineer, iOS Platform

This position is critical for architecting the iOS app to scale for over 100 million daily active users. You will establish industry-leading iOS development standards, enhance the overall developer experience, mentor senior iOS engineers, and serve as the primary technical authority for iOS app architecture challenges.

As a Principal Engineer, you will own the company-wide scope and impact of shaping Reddit's iOS development future, championing technology choices and best practices, and acting as the lead architect for the iOS application.

What You'll Do

• Own and scale the architecture of Reddit’s iOS Mobile App for future growth (100M+ DAUs).
• Propose innovative solutions to achieve the vision of making Reddit's Mobile Apps best-in-class.
• Identify architectural gaps and lead redesigns to enhance modularity, performance, and quality.
• Define, measure, and execute key user-facing performance goals, focusing on minimizing ANR rates, reducing app launch times, and eliminating frame drops.
• Improve observability and data quality for performance metrics through robust telemetry, monitoring, and guardrails.
• Foster a company-wide performance-driven culture, equipping all iOS engineers with the necessary tools and skills.
• Mentor iOS developers across the organization.
• Serve as the go-to expert for complex iOS development challenges.

What We Expect From You

• Deep, experience-based understanding of building mobile applications at scale.
• Strategic thinking with a passion for developing long-term technical foundations and scalable, well-designed software.
• 10+ years of software development experience, with at least 5 years specifically in iOS application design and development.
• Proven experience influencing large organizations (200+ engineers) on technical direction and best practices for iOS.
• Proficiency with modern iOS development frameworks like SwiftUI and Structured Concurrency.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (design, product, data) to deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $232,500 - $325,500 USD
