The Network & Edge Services (NES) team is responsible for the networking infrastructure powering 1Password, encompassing DNS resolution, CDN edge protection, ingress, service mesh, and wide-area connectivity. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in developing self-service platforms and a resilient, secure network foundation. What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud networking and distributed systems at SaaS scale.
  • Expertise in architecting and debugging across the network stack.
  • Deep knowledge of internet architecture and modern web services (DNS, CDN, WAF, Load Balancing, Ingress, Service Mesh).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver reliable, observable, and secure infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Go (or similar languages) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Track record of building automation and platform tooling.
  • Experience building reliable, observable platforms, defining SLIs/SLOs, and establishing these practices.
  • On-call experience, including incident resolution and driving improvements through postmortems.
  • Consistent application of a security-first approach, including least-privilege policies and encryption.

Bonus points for

  • Experience designing self-service network abstractions (DNS provisioning, ingress configuration, network policy tooling).
  • Experience with CDN, edge protection, VPNs, and wide-area connectivity in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with tools like Envoy, Linkerd, Cloudfront, or Cloudflare.
  • Open source contributions and experience applying compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001) to networking and policy as code.

What you can expect

  • Deliver end-to-end network stack projects (service mesh, DNS, ingress/egress, CDN, edge protection, L4/L7 policy), shaping technical vision and maintaining operability.
  • Integrate networking into self-service platforms to streamline workflows and empower engineering teams.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, driving incident resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in security, platform, and product engineering.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture through design reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
  • Work remotely from anywhere in the US or Canada, with periodic team meetups.
