The Role

This is a pivotal opportunity to join a passionate team using advanced AI to enhance global mental health accessibility. As a Member of Technical Staff specializing in Production Engineering, you will be instrumental in building the scalable platform that powers Ash. Your work will span voice and AI stacks, internal services, and associated data systems, focusing on enhancing observability, deployment processes, and platform tooling for reliable scaling. As a core member of a highly skilled team, you are expected to take ownership, be passionate about delivering user value, and contribute to improving people's lives.

Technology Stack

Our tech stack includes Dart/Flutter for the app, Kotlin for core backend services, Python for ML work, Next.js/TypeScript for internal tooling, and Rust for low-level media streaming. We utilize gRPC and GCP (Kubernetes, Cloud Run) as our primary cloud provider. While expertise in all areas is not required, a strong learning mindset and willingness to work with diverse tools are essential.

About You

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of operating production systems at scale within high-growth, quality-focused environments.
• Possess strong systems intuition and well-formed opinions on latency, reliability, and cost, with the ability to anticipate failure points under load and design accordingly.
• Driven by the creation of world-class products with a world-class team; eager to own your work and adapt systems based on production insights.
• Comfortable with full-stack development and a keen learner, capable of quickly adopting new languages, technologies, and concepts.
• Experience thriving in fast-paced environments, taking systems from prototype to scaled production rapidly.

Nice to Have

• Experience with production AI inference or model serving systems.
• Experience with real-time systems such as voice, live communications, or streaming.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines or evaluation systems.
• Familiarity with ML codebases; an interest in AI is beneficial, though deep ML expertise is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a cross-functional team (engineering, ML, product) to rapidly design, build, and launch new features across the entire stack.
• Work proficiently across our technology stack, including Kotlin backend, Python for ML/data, Rust for media streaming, Dart/Flutter for the app, and Next.js/TypeScript for tooling.
• Enhance user experience by continuously improving the reliability, performance, and scalability of Ash's underlying systems.
• Quickly investigate, diagnose, and resolve production issues, prioritizing latency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Proactively prototype new features based on customer feedback and product intuition.
