Database Platform Engineer (PostgreSQL & Oracle)

About the Role

As a Database Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing highly scalable, resilient PostgreSQL platforms, ensuring data is reliably, securely, and future-proofly accessible for our clients. You will conceptualize databases not as standalone systems, but as automated, cloud-native, enterprise-level platforms, aligning with the technical, operational, and business requirements of our clients.

Your Mission

Build the technological data foundation for modern data platforms, always oriented towards the business, technical, and operational needs of our clients. You will approach databases as automated, cloud-native, enterprise-level platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate scalable, highly available Oracle technologies and PostgreSQL platforms for modern data and analytics use cases.
• Plan and execute complex database migrations, such as from on-premise to cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP), between hyperscalers, or from legacy systems to PostgreSQL platforms.
• Automate the entire database lifecycle (IaC, GitOps, CI/CD) in the spirit of "Database as a Service".
• Take on a technical leadership role focusing on Observability, Reliability, Governance, and Best Practices across teams.

Requirements

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, a comparable technical field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Several years of experience in PostgreSQL Platform Engineering, Oracle technologies, and Advanced Database Architectures.
• A strong understanding of query planners, indexing strategies, partitioning, replication, and high-availability setups.
• Proficiency in Automation & Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible) and experience with GitOps and CI/CD approaches for databases.
• Willingness to undertake project-related business travel and fluency in both written and spoken German and English.
