Status Manual QA / Product Tester (Part time)

About the Role

We are seeking a part-time Manual QA / Product Tester (20 hours per week) to support testing efforts across the Status app and related product surfaces. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable thoroughly exploring mobile and desktop applications to identify functional issues, UI inconsistencies, UX friction, and unclear product flows.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct exploratory testing of existing app features and report functional, UI, and UX issues based on guidance from the Product Lead.
• Test newly developed features and product improvements prior to release.
• Perform feature testing and retesting of fixes in release builds during new app releases.
• Reproduce bugs and gather detailed information (steps to reproduce, screenshots, screen recordings, device info, expected vs. actual behavior) to assist developers.
• Collaborate with QA automation engineers to identify bugs suitable for automation.
• Periodically review website, Apple App Store, and Google Play product pages for obvious issues.
• Review product requirements for new features from a user's perspective, flagging any unclear or difficult-to-use aspects.
• Document feature functionality based on hands-on exploration and testing.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience in manual QA, product testing, app testing, or a strong interest in developing these skills.
• Proficiency as a mobile messenger app user. Experience with crypto wallets and mobile browsers is a significant plus.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot inconsistencies, bugs, or confusing user flows.
• Clear written communication skills for structured issue documentation.
• A user-focused mindset and a willingness to test from the perspective of real users.
• Comfort using and testing both mobile and desktop applications.
• Ability to follow testing guidance, ask pertinent questions, and collaborate effectively with Product, Engineering, and QA teams.
• Curiosity about leveraging AI in manual and semi-manual testing to optimize and reduce repetitive QA tasks.

Nice to Have:

• Experience testing on iOS, Android, desktop (Windows/MacOS), or web applications.
• Familiarity with bug-tracking tools or release testing processes.
• Experience writing documentation, test notes, or issue reports.
• Interest in crypto, wallets, messaging apps, or privacy-focused products.

Compensation:

The expected compensation for this role is $1000 USD per month for 20 hours of work per week. We are flexible and happy to pay in a mix of fiat and/or cryptocurrency.
