About the Role:

Zipdev is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee the administration, integrity, performance, and evolution of databases powering clients' Dental Practice Management Systems (DPMS). This platform-spanning role involves managing relational (Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and non-relational (MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB) databases, focusing on architecture, schema design, migration, data governance, and optimization across cloud and on-premise environments.

Responsibilities:

Database Architecture & Data Modeling:

  • Design, implement, and evolve database schemas and data structures across SQL and NoSQL platforms.
  • Own data modeling strategies, selecting appropriate structures for applications and workloads.
  • Oversee schema design and governance for legacy and modern systems.
  • Create and maintain normalized relational models and denormalized/document-based structures.
  • Partner with engineering teams to translate business and clinical requirements into scalable database solutions.

Database Administration & Performance:

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, and related platforms.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Perform query optimization, index maintenance, partitioning, and capacity planning.
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability across production environments.

Data Migration & Synchronization:

  • Design, review, and manage schema changes, upgrades, and migrations across multiple environments.
  • Lead modernization initiatives for legacy systems and database transformations.
  • Support data synchronization and movement across heterogeneous platforms.
  • Work with ETL, ELT, data gateway, and change-data-capture (CDC) processes.
  • Maintain data integrity across cloud and on-premise systems.

Cloud & Security:

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure and Cloud teams to provision, configure, and secure database environments.
  • Support cloud-hosted database services within Microsoft Azure.
  • Implement database security controls, access governance, and compliance standards.
  • Manage user permissions, data access controls, and audit requirements.
  • Ensure proper backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.

Documentation & Governance:

  • Create and maintain data dictionaries, schema documentation, entity relationship diagrams, and architecture documentation.
  • Establish database governance standards and best practices.
  • Ensure schema changes are properly versioned, documented, and deployed.
  • Provide technical guidance on database strategy and architecture.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, or Data Platform Engineer.
  • Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, or similar).
  • Strong expertise in relational and non-relational data modeling.
  • Experience designing and governing schema changes and database migrations.
  • Experience supporting legacy system modernization and database transformation projects.
  • Strong SQL query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning skills.
  • Experience with ETL, ELT, data synchronization, or data movement pipelines.
  • Understanding of Change Data Capture (CDC) and cross-platform data synchronization.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure database services and cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Experience with Azure Cosmos DB at scale.
  • Experience in enterprise healthcare, healthcare technology, or regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting SaaS products and cloud-native applications.
